Regarding the price, it is very expensive for a beer, but it is par for the course for this beer. If the price seems to high for you, then it likely is and I wouldn't worry about it. It has stayed on the shelves in many regions due to the price.

I wouldn't say dumb. But you'll kick yourself later. My buddy decided against it when he had the chance. I wouldn't call him dumb at all. I stil think he should have gotten one though. I ended up with two.

If you don't buy Fruet, wait until next year for the next one (Bois), which will probably be even better when it comes out (Solera blending is working excellent with these beers) and you can trade for the different crazy barrel varients (ala Papier):
-- Bois (5th anniversary) aged in new French oak barrels
-- Bois Aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels
-- Bois Aged in Brandy Barrels
-- Bois Aged in new American Oak Barrels #4 Toast

Buy it, if $30 bucks isn't the end of the earth. Yes, it's a lot of money for a beer, but the fact that you've hefted it up multiple times and never pulled the trigger kinda answers your question. Hell split the cost with a friend if it comes down to it.

It's very good, but like all the Bruery beers, price is a bit prohibitive.

I thought it was good enough to buy a second one after drinking the first.

It was the best shelf anniversary beer to date that they've made. So, yes. That was dumb, in my opinion.

Fruet is still on a bunch of shelves in MD. I am actually glad I passed on it, because one of the stores I frequent drastically cut the prices on a lot of beer they weren't moving, just to make room for new beers that were coming in.

So I was able to get two bottles of Fruet for $18.99 each!

Very tasty beer. I enjoyed it very much. I would even like to have more. But I would never pay $30 for it. I drank it with a generous friend. I've been passing on bottles for months now.

I've never had Fruet, but I don't think you should ever regret passing on a beer. It just didn't feel right, so you didn't buy it. Case closed. There are way too many outstanding beers available to waste time lamenting about one that got away.

I bought one this morning and I will have it as soon as I have an excuse to drink, what many have called, a good beer!! I can't wait! I don't regret spending the dough on it either, it was the last one at that particular store! If it blows me away I will be looking for one to age!!

Yes expensive....too expensive, i think, but excellent. Only you can judge your money situation but i 'd offer an opinion on the beer:

definitely among the ten best things i had this year (out of about 300 or so)

Are you blowing all of your beer budget on one Fruet? Are you going to miss rent? Will your children go hungry? If the answer to any of these is yes, then don't buy it. If it won't break the bank, give it a shot. I think it is worth it for a one time experience with an exceptional (maybe borderline excellent) beer.

I really enjoyed it but split it with a couple of over BAs - I would recommend sharing it as it is pretty big but delicious.

in one word, yes. if you like huge, boozy, flavorful beers for sharing with friends, this is definitely one to buy. bc of the price i could only afford one, but i would have bought 3 or so if i could've.

I bought a couple bottles when I came across it, but since we didn't get it in Ohio because it's over our 12% ABV cap, I knew I wasn't going to see it again anytime soon (since I was out of state at the time). It was $35 a bottle where I bought it at, I drank one already and I don't feel bad about spending that much because it's a very good brew.

This is not how I thought this thread would go. I bought one, and felt like a jackass. Haven't opened it yet, though.

I rarely even like barleywines and enjoyed this beer. Worth trying, do it.
