I hope not but I too thought the same thing would happen here. I’d get the same ones everyone else got back in...November I think it was? So I was very surprised, given our geographic proximity though it is more possible. Anyways hopefully that isn’t the case, let’s hope you get pleasantly surprised as well.

Pils is available in western Michigan, I bought a four pack of cans two weeks ago and it didn't take me but a few days to enjoy them all. Definite repeat purchase for me and I prefer it over Pilsner Urquell by a wide margin. No off favors whatsoever. I didn't check the date on the can, I will next time.

Only cans I've seen are the Original Munich Lager and the Grapefruit Radler. Bunches and Bunches growing older by the minute. I did drink the Hell before it went too old for me to buy.

Just out of curiosity, what is your cutoff point at which you'll no longer purchase the Helles? I have my own and it is not the best by date that's printed on the bottles.

I bought one that was 9 months old and it was pretty good but I wouldn't buy any that are +6 months anymore.

If an import is a month ahead of the best-by date I'll take a chance. But I've had decent luck with some closer to the date. If it's past, it's a pass.

Six months is my limit as well. I've found anything after that is rolling the dice.

I'll give the Germans credit, they can and do make beers that last well past 6 months. However, I dislike being the guinea pig and paying for the privilege as well.
