So I was out to a local bar that specializes in import and craft selections. When looking at the beer menu the waiter asked if I needed a minute but I decided to ask what he has that is "off the menu". He sort of smirked and asked what I meant, so I replied, something hard to find. turns out he had bottles of Founders Better half and Bourbon County Coffee, and thought he had a bottle of King Henry left which would have made my night for sure. Moral of the story is I am back home a bottle of better half and BCBCS richer so make sure to ask! man I wish they actually had that King Henry...thats turning into my "White Whale"
I wish any of those beers would make it to Ohio, we can't get anything over 12% unfortunately. They let you take home full bottles of BCBCS and Better Half?!?
they did, not sure what the law is here though I would have to look it up, pretty young waiter so I'm sure it didn't even cross his mind.
I'm fairly certain off-premise sales are legal at bars in Michigan. I know of a couple that definitely do it, Hopcat is one of them. They usually won't let you take home the rare stuff though.
Sometimes it pays to ask....and others it doesn't. I saw 12 bottles of Rose de Gambrinus in a cooler at one of my regular bar/restaurant haunts in Chicago....and was told that I couldn't order a bottle with my meal (plus 3 friends) because "the owner is trying to drum up some hype before selling it." Makes me want to not go back again.
I bought 6 Bramble Ryes at a bar about a month after the release. They sold them to me for $20 each and I took them home. It was a nice surprise since I wasn't able to land regular BCBS, Coffee BCBS, King Henry, or Bramble before that.
