I will be heading to PDX this summer for an early celebration of my 50th B-day. I have a pretty solid breweries but it good oto be on the look out for the stray brewery I am not looking for but run in to. Should I ignore breweries with no BA visit reviews or the last one is more than a year old? Grazie
Assuming you've already perused the current (and past) "Visiting Portland" threads, the Places section may not be the most reliable. We in the NW tend to review places and beers on BA less frequently and more harshly than you encounter in other regions of the US, so the lack of a recent review may cause you to miss some great spots within easy access. I recommend looking at the current thread and posting where specifically in Portland you're planning to stay/visit for more customized recommendations that may not be adequately represented in the Places section.
As Ryan said, read this: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland-fall-winter-2016-17-update.457121/ That thread is better than all the place reviews for Portland on this site.
Congratulations!!! 50 is the new 30. Portland is a great day drinking town if howling at the moon is not your thing. Two words when I beer adventure: Happy. Hour. Cuz I like my groceries when I sip my suds. Keeping that in mind, check back a couple of days before you go and collate a list as they (and tap lists) change often. Then try to follow the list. Then accidentally lose the list along the way. Then keep going. Then you'll find the good stuff. In someone's shed or at a laundromat, bookstore, bike shop, hair care purveyor etc.
Thank you! I will need to be on this like White on rice with keeping up my list and I mos def check in the weeks before we leave. If possible and lackey we will hit 15 or so-
Be sure to visit the new Breakside location in NW Portland, aka "Slabtown." It's their "hop lab," and it's awesome.
