Beer has already been mentioned. That interest is assured. The others are purely speculative at this point...

Did Fair get a hold of the account, or are you several bottles deep? I'm enjoying the multi-thread drift, don't get me wrong.

I'm beginning to think you have a vested interest in their popularity.

That said, people definitely eat a lot of cheese here in America. I mean, a lot of cheese. And cows, of course, make cheese (among other things). So, that's 2 out of 4, which is a very good start...

Clams and crabs are more divisive. Some find them delicious. Others see them only as a path to food poisoning or pinched and lacerated toes. I would not be so sanguine about them, if I were you.

But beer still makes it 3 out of 5, and that tips the scale. Congratulations. You can now expect 3 more tourists in March!

Yes!! Definitely:slight_smile:. deGarde is why Tillamook is on my list. Planning on being there March 16!

Also going to eat cheese and ice cream in a Tillamook.

Love this thread! What a great community here. So much better than all the other crap that is being flung online these days. I'll be in Portland tomorrow, can't wait!

I get the impression you do your homework before any trip SoCali, so I'm sure you're probably aware of this. dG tasting room hours are pretty limited, so be sure to plan accordingly. Also, dG is pretty good about keeping their facebook page updated, if you want to stay abreast of the current tap list and "bottles to go" selection. Not that there's ever a time when the selection isn't worth the trip "over the hill," but just in case you might be curious and all. :-)

Taproom hours are 3-6 on Fridays and 12-5 on Saturdays. Rather narrow windows of opportunity.

But yeah. Heater Allen is a gem.

Just remember that de Garde is 21+, maybe your son and your mom could do the air museum during that time.

I have an 18 year old and a 16 year old and we've traveled to Portland every Christmas time for the last 5 years. Here's what they like from what I like beer-wise (as long as you feed them --- that's key): Cascade Barrel House, Deschutes, and Fathead's. My boys have thoroughly enjoyed each of these the multiple times we've visited.

And if money's not an object, they loved Higgins Restaurant the one time we took them. The food is 5-star and the tap list matches.

Or tour the Tillamook Dairy factory. It's a thing, and fairly popular.

Surprisingly popular. I'm amazed every single time I drive by there. Kinda makes me want to check it out and see what all the fuss is about, even though it probably doesn't have the same appeal for someone who is lactose intolerant.

There's also Quarter World. Kid friendly until 8pm, and two full bars.

IIRC, I once read an article that said it gets over a million visitors a year. Seems a bit much to me, but, maybe people really like free samples.

If you do that drive, and the timing is right, it's worth stopping in at Wolves & People, about halfway between Portland and the museum.

It's always insane in there, a million seems low as everyone and their motor home seems to stop by there. We usually just get ice cream, even did the every flavour monster once (I don't recommend that).

I doubt that will be much of a problem. Post something in the NW forum when you'll be in town, as well as when you're in Eugene, Corvallis and Tillamook. I'm sure someone will be happy to stop by, say hi, and bend your ear. For that matter, I'm sure you'll run into plenty of friendly, chatty and outgoing folks pretty much every place you go. In particular, I always find the staff and patrons at the dG tasting room to be very friendly and outgoing.
