Hey, I will be in San Diego next month. Where should I look to buy bottles of Peanut Butter Stout? Do I have to go to the brewery itself?

Is this available regularly? Anyone enjoy it compared to Belching Beaver?

It's a year round beer. I enjoyed it more than Belching Beaver, but I seem to be the only one that doesn't like the Belching Beaver PB. I remember it being way too sweet and tasting more like root beer than peanut butter, but maybe I should revisit it.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know of a peanut butter stout that's actually made with peanut butter? Every one I've come across just has PB flavoring. I can see how brewing with PB could be a nightmare, both from an allergens safety standpoint, and the fact you'd have to deal with the sticky mess of peanut butter. Just wondering if any brewery has ventured to try.

Uh I think you mean Evil Genius .....but let's get real that sounds like a copycat. And also something Evil Twin would brew....

I was wondering myself because I just recently picked up a bottle of Belching Beaver PB Stout and was disappointed to see it said brewed with "natural flavors." For all I know, it could have been brewed with bugs to give it a "PB" flavor.

They'll be at any store that sells craft I'm sure. They're everywhere in Orange County, I'm sure they're more plentiful there....

Catawba's Peanut Butter Jelly Time is excellent. Has more raspberry than peanuts but the initial whiff when you crack the can is straight up PB&J.

You butchered that... Its Evil Genius, and it's a chocolate peanut butter porter.

Wow I'm amazed how popular Belching Beaver PB Milk stout is. Either that or because I'm a newbie on this site. I frequent the brewery often and the Peanut Butter Milk stout is what got me coming back. As someone else mentioned, their Horchata stout is pretty tasty also. Feel free to reach out if anyone wants to trade a couple.

+1 for the 4Hands Peanut Butter Chocolate Milk Stout. I have also had the Belching Beaver and really enjoyed it. About to do a 4Hands, Belching Beaver, and Big Gruesome side by side. I might have the terrapin also....

    **EDIT**

To the OP, PM me your address and ill send you the 4Hands.

To anyone else, I can get a few more for anyone else who wants to try it. PM me to discuss

Wait, so you're saying people have different tastes in beer?! No way!

Perhaps the OP should try them and decide for himself.

It's my understanding that the peanut butter wreaks havoc on brewing equipment and is a complete nightmare to clean. It's also possible that it would simply take too much to actually get the flavors to come out.

It's extremely limited, as it's only available at the brewpub, but if you're ever in Charleston, Edmund's Oast Peanut Butter & Jelly is unbelievably good!

I know some breweries use PB2 to flavor their peanut butter beers. I would say that counts as actual peanut butter.

For those not familiar with PB2, it's essentially powdered peanut butter. Just ground up peanuts with the oil removed. It's marketed as a healthy peanut butter, because it has a much lower fat and calorie content.

The oil in traditional peanut butter is terrible for brewing, from an equipment standpoint to negatively impacting head retention. I guess some breweries have found PB2 to be a way around this.
