What are your thoughts on Peanut Butter beers? Personally, I get very excited about them when reading descriptions and reviews, but then am a bit let down when I taste them. Thus far, the only standout has been Gunner's Daughter by Mast Landing. Are there any others that stand out to you?

Far from a New England offering but Bale from Aslin is - by many orders of magnitude - the best PB beer I've ever had - really hoping to try Glamping at some point since that's supposed to be even better.

Gunner's Daughter is a great session beer and I'm curious to try to imperial version. Been disappointed by most of the other PB beers I've had, regular PM Dawn is one of my all time favorite stouts but despite not minding the PB variant I found myself struggling to finish a full can.

I used to give them a try because I love PB. Now I don't buy them at all. Just don't think the taste translates well to beer, and usually these PB beers are dense and expensive so an easy pass.

Not a NE beer, but I thought PB Medianoche from Weldwerks was excellent. It had a roasty peanut flavor with just enough sweetness without being over the top.

The first batch of PB PM Dawn was also amazing. The subsequent two were good but didn’t reach the same level of thick, PB goodness.

I had a HOTS on draft at the source and didn’t get much PB at all

It is a tough flavor to coax out of a beer

Barreled Souls Peanut Butter Stay Puft and Jack's Abby PB&J BA Framinghammer are both pretty good. Looking forward to the Peanut Butter Cup BA Framinghammer.

Omnipollo Yellow Belly has great peanut butter even though no nuts/oils were used in the brewing process.

HOTS is hit and miss...the Trillium PB was not great either...Belching Beaver PB Milk stout has been one of the better ones I've had...

PB Mead on the other hand can be delicious...

Have had a lot of PB beers lately. I suck as describing how beer tastes & all but here are my thoughts.

PB PM Dawn (Trillium) - Way too much PB for me. Still good, just overpowering.

HOTS (Tree House) - Like no PB at all. Still a very good beer though.

Gunners Daughter (Mast Landing) - Still my fave PB beer. A nice hint of PB without being overpowering. Love that it isn't a 10% monster too.

Imp Gunners Daughter (Mast Landing) - Tastes almost exactly like GD, just like richer, thicker, & fuller. I love it.

Bale (Aslin) - Didn't get to open this one yet. Have heard it's amazing

Boris (Bent Water) - It's a porter, but damn I think it's underrated. Really liked it.

Snaccident (Smutt Labs) - Closest thing to GD but not quite as good.

Nut Smasher (Willoughby) - Very, very good

Perm 69 - Heavy PB flavor, but nicely cut by the barrel aging.

Purple Monkey Dishwasher (Evil Genius) was wowing me a few years ago. I thought the peanut butter cup notes were just right, although many reviews said it tasted artificial.

Peanut Butter Raincloud (Foolproof) was OK, but maybe a bit like a Reese's Cup went through the teleportation device in the "The Fly."

Is Gunners Daughter available in CT?

Miles to go before I sleep is really good.

I don't know that a lot of these are available in CT, but awesome feedback everyone! Of the ones mentioned, with my opinions:

-Purple Monkey Dishwasher, I 100% agree that it tastes artificial.
-PB Raincloud, the first iteration was fantastic, but for this years they supposedly "added more pb" and it did not come out great.
-Gunner's Daughter is great IMO. Definitely the clubhouse leader by a solid margin in terms of PB beers in CT.

    Not mentioned:
-PB Victory at Sea is another one that is really good. Not quite at the level of Gunner's, but well ahead of Purple Monkey and PB Raincloud
-Hooker Peanut Slayer. Have only sampled a sip of someone elses. Seemed ok, but Hooker always seems to fall short for me in terms of overall quality, so I am not expecting much
-Duclaw Sweet Baby Jesus, not bad. Has a slight artificial taste/bite to it like For Pete's Sake, but it is masked by the heavier imperial porter flavors.
-Duclaw For Pete's Sake, this one matches my feeling about Purple Monkey. Something about it tastes off/artifical.

The peanut butter stout Kinsman brewery was giving out at the CT brewer's guild last Saturday tasted like a liquid peanut butter cup.

Drank the Aslin Bale last night. It was good but certainly not mind blowing. I am clearly in the minority on that opinion though.

I first tried the PB imperial Stout from Pipe Dream and could not finish it. It was way too rich and overly PBish for my palate... Also tried the Smuttlabs version and it, too, was too rich for me... I guess I'd prefer something with the PB lurking more in the background than in yo' face...

    Prosit!

Many, many people in CT have been raving about Alvarium's "Salted Peanut Butter Cup" Porter. Absolutely lots of peanut butter flavor. But....ick. The salted part imparted a metallic saline taste.

I was at a bar this week that had it on tap and people loved it. To me it just tasted like a carbonated soda with peanut butter flavor. Big nope.
