I had never been to one until I just happened to be in the area of a place doing it last year, and the variants were so good that I'm seriously considering traveling specifically for it this year. It is a bit strange how early it is and how the date seems to bounce around from year to year, being in late May last year and late March previously.
I got lucky and went to Monks a few days after they had a tap takeover(2018) of this beer and variants. There were still a good amount on tap. I had the original and Peche Houblon. Both were great. The original is still my favorite on tap, such a great body and taste. I won’t be able to make it this year but maybe I can stop in a day or two later and see what’s still on. Enjoy
this beer used to get talked about a lot by stout lovers, but I haven't seen bottles for sale at a beer store in at least 5 years. Might have to try to make it to an event
And nothing at all in the NW? Louisville Kentucky, but nothing in PDX or Seattle?!?!? (not that I have anything against Louisville Kentucky getting some).
luckily we get a few DDC beers in distro here with Peche Mortel being the most common. At 5 dollars for a single i dont buy them much , but every now and again I'll spring for one and it's always good. Side Note: I HATE the new labels
agreed the new labels I see on their website look lame. Of the 6 DDC beers that I've reviewed, all but one of them were 10+ years ago. And the more recent one was a draft beer.
The OG is easily one of my favorite beers of all time… I don’t see it often in my area, but occasionally enough it pops up. Hadn’t seen it for quite some time until the other day and it appears as though they rebranded- not sure when that happened and am wondering if that’s why I “hadn’t seen it for some time” lol Had a chance to try the bourbon barrel version previously and it was a little bit of a letdown considering how little of it makes it south of the border. TL;DR I haven’t experienced a coffee stout that touches Peche Mortel
So I happen to be up in the Albany NY area this weekend for an alumni event for my fraternity at RPI. So before the event we hit up Delaware Supply for lunch and some Peche Mortel. Tried all 4 of the variants - they definitely are all quite different. The Special Edition had an amazing strong espresso aroma and flavor, the Latte was a toxuh sweet and very creamy, the Bourbon was dominated with oak and vanilla, the Mexican has a very nice smokey pepper and dark cocoa flavor.
Dieu du ciel! Favorite Canadian brewery of mine by a country mile. Unibroue is quite special too, especially for their Belgian styles. No chance of celebrating Péché day here, though.
I enjoyed it in NYC, but the Mexican and Original were still my favorites (though the especial wasn't flowing). I really thought I'd love the bourbon but I think it suffers from the same effect Kane Porters do tad are barrel aged. It's not an imperial stout and the barrel takes over and makes it unbalanced (for my palate). That said if they actually sold those peche day 4 packs at the bar rather than only QC I would probably have taken one to go after a nice afternoon.
I buy a few bottles every few month, 12-15 a year. Last year were a bit under $4 but now are a bit under $5. Five -six years ago they were almost $6. I enjoy this beer and draft is quite nice and coffee. I don’t like the new label either but the beer is the same. Enjoy
A Draft to Nitro to Lukr comparison is perhaps notable, if one were to focus on one variant vs. studying all… --- @jmdrpi - Frequently in Albany @ Delaware Supply: they don’t fail…did they still have some Sacred Profane on tap
Honestly I'm not sure, as I wasn't really paying attention to the rest of the taplist at Delaware Supply as we only hit it up for lunch and Peche variants (side note -their sandwiches were very good). The Ruck did have both Sacred Profane lagers on draft but the Dark kicked before I could order one.
Have had issues with ‘The Ruck’ = They seem to only clean the (draft) lines when a prosperous suspect is at paly
