Looks like i'm gonna be in TO for this but i'll be with non beer geeks. Is it really packed/better times to show up? Don't want to turn off my friends who aren't really into the beer scene. Any advice is welcome!
Where did you see this info? I was there for Dunham takeover and it wasn't busy at all. GLB takeover was packed, and Jester King was busier than Dunham... So I'd say it's unpredictable.
http://www.canadianbeernews.com/2015/12/21/dieu-du-ciel-announces-date-locations-for-peche-day-2016/ At the brewpub it's always crammed, just looking for past experience from locals.
papat444 - Hard to say. The GLB event was busy in the afternoon, but in a good way. The Zwanze Day events are always choatic, however, the crowds really thin out in the evenings. I would say your best bet is to go in the evening and not in the afternoon if you want to avoid crowds. The down side of that is I think Volo has a better atmosphere in the day. It's a great venue when the sun is shining in. I find the place depressing in the evening. It's way too dark inside. It is also not a good place to eat when busy events are going on. Do not plan to eat lunch/dinner there if you want to have a nice dining experience. You probably won't be able to find a table and they won't have proper wait staff. Perhaps I'll see you there!
This is what i needed to know. We will be going for dinner before a concert so maybe we'll eat somewhere else and grab a beer there, thanks!
The show is at the Danforth Music Hall at 7pm. That is in the heart of Greek town. You have many good dining options on the Danforth. Also a good beer bar, The Only Cafe, nearby. I would suggest you go to Bar Volo mid-afternoon, have a few drinks, then take the subway to the Danforth (take the Yonge line to the Bloor line and transfer). It will only take 10 minutes or so to get to the Danforth from Volo. Eat dinner then go to the show. Afterwards, have some drinks at the Only Cafe. At some point during the day you should trade me all your barrel-aged DDC!
Looking forward to the Peach Peche, have been teasing the brewer about this for years and they finally made it. For those in Alberta it is happening at both the Edmonton and Calgary Beer Revolutions.
Seriously? That would be interesting....... Volo said six different versions. I'm guessing regular, 2016, bourbon, peach, xtra coffee, and cask. Really hoping for brandy/cognac!
i don't remember last year's event being insanely packed. but i remember one of the 1st DdC take-overs at Volo having a line out the door. you'll eventually get in. may be a 30 min wait. if the weather's tolerable, the patio will likely be open
I haven't been to a Volo event yet in the past 12 months that wasn't completely jammed. Super excited for this though. It'll be worth the wait!
The regular Bourbon version is a bit better than the Brandy & Cognac variant, although both are delicious (we tried at DDC anniv party last month), and are more chocolatey than any of the previous releases. I should be more jazzed up... but have already had 5 of the 6 versions on pour this year. Peach will be very interesting. Volo will be busy - particularly if it's a very cold day, and the side patio is either closed or too cold to pop outside for a drink. Then again, you don't have to be there for opening time. Many times, Volo will have a third to half of the beers available the following day. Also, about 3-4 hrs after an event starts, lots of folks are heading home, so that's often a good time to show up, especially if you don't fancy waiting in line beforehand.
i'm working that day until 3, so i'll either show up late or hope to catch some beer on Sunday. not really in the mood to show up at Volo and wait outside for 1-3 hours
