Tried this beer, Wakeup Call, and it is quite delicious, and quite different, it's a coffee pale ale that rocks. Not a misprint, coffee pale ale. Maybe I need to get out more, but I haven't tasted another.

Anyone else try this? I'd be interested to hear what you think. No BA reviews yet.

Also to be a heads up on this one to anyone who enjoys strong flavored and wonderful experiments by a master brewer, this is one to try.

Man, when they move to bigger digs this is gonna be one crazy brewery to have in the area, imagine cans or bottles of Shotgun Willy and the rest of the new lineups. Thoughts?

I had it a while ago at the brewery. My take on it was that I was super impressed with it "technically." The way they were able to capture pure coffee flavor in a pale beer with a clean look and taste. It was like iced coffee. However it was not something I would want to drink often.
On a side note I love Peekskill Brewery and wish I lived a little closer. There Eastern Standard is one of my fav ipa's.

I had Eastern Standard there once on my way to Conn. It was one of the best IPAs I ever had

I can tell you I tried their Irish Breakfast Stout and it was on of the best coffee brews I have ever had in my life. The guy is ridicuoulsy talented... almost freakishly. I am very jealous (STILL) that all of you down state have Chief now after we were spoiled for years up here! All of you can now enjoy what we had.

Looks like I need to get down there to try wakeup call. Wish Ithaca had more coffee brews

Peekskill Brewery is one of my favorite places since it offers their own brews AND guest taps. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get there as often as I want since the wife doesn't care for the new menu and she's my DD. Last time there, the bartender [whose name escapes me but he came with Jeff from Ithaca] informed me about plans to distribute in the area, which is great news. I can't wait to enjoy their house brews at home in cans or bottles. They do fill growlers, but I've been spoiled by pressure-filled growlers at DeCicco's in Brewster [the non pressure filled do not hold the carbonation as well].

Sounds like a plan. What's going on in the HUD VAL area is impressive. All I need to hear next is if peekskill is definitely getting into the sours game hard. Imagine Peekskill and elmsford putting out some of the best sours in the country!

I just had a nice conversation with Jeff at Blind Tiger in the city this past Sunday. First time meeting him, what a great man as well as great brewer!!! The koolschip is in...but... it is going to be used mainly for a tank for non soured beers. He said he has plans for beers along the lines of LeBleu and Brute, but won't be the main thing right off the bat. He said he has done a microflora survey, and the area is good, but he has worries, and I will try to quote, "...about what will be dripping from the ceiling in the new location." You might want to keep this to yourself, I got the feeling he didn't really want to speak about it, and did it only 'cause after a while it was like a couple homebrewers talking, he and I, it was so cool.

Wow you are gonna have to go out of your way driving back to Chicago, or down to NYC for a flight, but if you do stop at Captain Lawrence also. The Berliner is solid, recommended, really solid take on the style, but prob not the best on tap. I recommend Shotgun Willy, Wakeup Call, and one of the pre-O'Neil faves, Vanilla Bourbon Stout, also a new one, Double Standard. I like the Berliner, have it every chance I get.

Thanks man, no flight and it doesn't add much to my drive to come down thru CT to hit Peekskill, CL is closed on Sunday aren't they? I may even head down to Philly...

You are correct CL is closed on Sundays. I don't know whether they are open on Sundays, but Keegan Ales in Kingston sounds like an interesting brewery to visit.

I actually went there in 2010 on a trip to the hudson river area which included a trip to the old cl location.

Leave it to Cave Dave to play homer again (lol)...(I had to say that again)...Eastern Standard IPA was pretty outstanding but Shotgun Willy is their best. I actually didnt care for the Berliner Weissbier when I was there last month...but in its defense, it was the middle beer between Shotgun Willy and Eastern Standard.

Next time I am in the area again...I sense another mini bottle share in the works. Unfortunately, I have a little court matter in Cleveland to take care of next week and it has set me back about two weeks in my work load.

Dave, did you happen to crack open the CL Black Sour yet? Ive been sitting on mine but was curious if you had (or anyone else for that matter). I saw on twitter today that they are down to their last couple dozen bottles of it.

cave dave is spot on when it comes to AmAzInG beer. The guy drives to Ithaca at like 3am to pick up sours...

He gives prop to CL in elmsford and kills me with his irony in peekskill!!!

I wish chief would come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes.... double feature, saison de chief, and shotgun are amazing!!!

I am unashamedly a homer, never have a problem with admitting it, but when the quality of beer in the area has improved so dramatically it isn't hard nor dishonest to be one.

Haven't cracked the MB Select yet, but have been emptying numerous Hops N Roses since they gave it a little bit of distro in the area. That beer has really grown on me, it is just delicious. Hope this is a trend that continues, I would love to see my shops with similar in future. Have to get to Peekskill for a trade maybe I will make it, finally, to the new CL location also.

Yeah, a mini bottle share sounds great, it would also be great if you are in area for a legit share at the saloon.

And I really don't care for Eastern Standard. And even though I edited my review I think I still have the harshest review of the Peekskill Brewery Pub, hope that mellows my homer tag:slight_smile:

Have a few bottles of the CL MB and Hops and Roses, and tried a few as well. TASTY!

If you guys wouldn't mind, I'd love to join the mini bottle share, and have a lot I can bring, so just let me know if it's cool. Thanks.
