I typically pre order hope in muiple pounds and package into 1-2 ounce Co2 purged vacuum sealed packages.

Always get an extra .5-2 ounces per pound. When I do buy a single ounce package they are almost always a bit off; heavy or light. Rarely are they spot on.

I have had a 55 pound bag of grain weigh 40 pounds though, and I was not a happy camper! Checked it on multiple scales and it was 40. The LHBS got more than an ear full on that occasion!!!

I never really noticed my pellet hops being 'light' until I purchased a more precise scale for water additions and started measuring my hops in grams.

Since then I've just learned that if I'm buying hops by the ounce I need to buy an extra ounce bc most if not all of the packets are going to be off by a gram or two.

I opened up two bags of hops from Hop Union today. One was 1 ounce exactly and the other was 1.1 oz.

If the bags are CO2 filled (or vacuum-sealed in some cases) then that shouldn't be a problem. If they can keep O2 out then they should be able to keep H2O in. The molecular size of H2O is larger than O2.

True...but that's a big if...especially if buying in small amounts from a LHBS (at least mine) or repackaging frequently.

As I said earlier...never had a problem myself...was really just joking about other commodities...Cheers
