we get Almanac Sours, FW, Odell, Deshcutes (black butte XXVII is coming out next week), if you can get any Snake river american sour or Grand Sour Saison they are both really nice. Woodland Empire is a local that has good stuff - you could get a growler

I would agree on the Zonker and add most of Grand Teton Brewing's beers. Although they do distribute to Minnesota. I love Bitch Creek and some of their rotating and "Cellar Reserve" bottles are really good, too.

Why don't you give people an idea of what type of beers you like, son. You're not really going to get quality input otherwise - sort of a lazy question...

Do you think they'll opt for that extra effort, or just not bother responding? I've found that I get the best help when I do what I can to make it easy on those helping me. But I've never tried being a smartass AND asking for help at the same time, maybe that'll work out for you.

I didn't resort to being a smart ass until I had smart assed comments to reply to. I understand my original post could have included some more specifics, but the fact is that I'm open to just about anything.

I found the replies of guys like @ManBearPat, @Deggar, and @TheDoctor to be quite helpful. I don't understand what's so difficult about popping in to drop your two cents on local beers you enjoy and to let me do my research to sort out which ones interest me and which ones don't. I'm not trying to trick anyone into doing the extra work for me, I'm just asking for suggestions. People do it all the time, it's what this website is for.

I spend a lot of time in these forums and I'm typically very friendly. 99% of the feedback and interaction I get from the rest of the community is overwhelmingly positive and friendly in turn. Maybe it's this regional forum. Perhaps I should avoid the 'Mountain' region altogether. The folks don't seem to take too kindly to my type.

Zonkers is a great beer, but I'd be damned if I would ever go to the trouble to trade for it. Can't the OP just find a locally available export stout to drink? There must be some decent ones in Minnesota.

I'm sure in Minnesota there are, but I've never honestly seen one in my rural market. On top of that, it's less about me getting to try the best beers possible, and more about fulfilling a trade with someone in Idaho who can't get the Bell's he loves since he moved. I'm doing him a solid and am just excited at the possibility of trying new beers that I don't have regular access to.

@FarmerTed, what export stout (roughly as good as Zonker) would you recommend to me that would be available in the NoCO region?

Guinness Foreign Extra is an easy one, and I guess Lion Stout, which I've never had, would be one to try before you trade for off the shelf 6-pack beer. There is also Avery Out-of-Bounds for a local one (I think it fits as a foreign stout), and the obvious one is Upslope Foreign Extra Stout, which is excellent. That should be coming out pretty soon.

American Sour and Grand Sour Saison are from Grand Teton Brewing, across the pass in Victor, ID, not Snake River.

Heya John!! I didn't think you even made it on to the site anymore!!

For the OP, I would shoot for the BA Seven Devils from Sockeye... It was released a while back in cans and is pretty phenomenal (I hear a new batch is coming in bottles) ... Also, Sockeye's Old Devil's Tooth Barleywine is a 1st rate Barleywine and is also in a can.

Woodland Empire is doing fantastic stuff on the Belgian front. Their saisons are very good and they should have series of small batch fruited Berliners coming out very soon.

The Grand Teton American Sour is legit and hands-down one of the best American made sours I've had in a while.

That said, many of the best hoppy beers are coming from the PNW.... If you can get a crowler/growler fill of a Barley Brown's IPA/DIPA, I would get one.

    Hope this helps, Galt.

    Hi Toby,

I've been around, lol Moving to CO has given me a greater selection of brew's compared to fucked up Utah, lol Nice to see that you are still around as well.

    Cheers!

The American Sour really surprised me, excited to see what else they can do now going forward.
