Penrose is releasing two beers today early afternoon. Curious who is headed there today?

    Their info....
We've got another weekday wild release in the works: Bottles of Wild XIII and Wild XIV go on sale in the taproom at 1pm on Wednesday, October 14th. Wild XIII is an oak-aged sour wild blonde ale with apricots and Wild XIV is a tart saison with Brettanomyces. Allocations will be announced on release day, and both beers will be available on draught in the taproom.

Better start perfecting your fake cough now so you can call in sick — it's gonna be a wild Wednesday.

Wild XIII sounds amazing. Unfortunately, these Wednesday releases are brutal. I don't get off until 5 - get home from the city at 6 and Penrose is a 25 min drive for me. I'm not sure these will last until then (unless the allocation is limited). Really wish I could make it.

I might try to make it out there still. I think the last release lasted until 7ish. Just wish it was on a weekend.

Damn, wish it wasn't 6 bottle limit. Seems like a bunch of people in line got screwed.

Oh well, hope the next wild release is on a weekend so I can make it out.

Seems like the guys at Penrose underestimated the beer geeks needs for fruited sours. Chalk this one up as a learning experience.

The last week day release they did was on a Tuesday and it was 6 per person and didn't sell out until 7pm.

I think they have done 1pp and 2pp on Saturday releases though.

I was contemplating leaving work, skipping lunch, and commuting over and back (estimated 60-90 min total)to grab bottles at 1 (time of release). Instead I figured I could get some at 6pm tonight and pass through on my way home. I guess the only thing I am happy about is that I did not waste an hour of my work day trying to make it out there only to end up empty handed.

personally i am done trying. or paying any attention to their weekday releases, possibly even their beer in general. by allocating 6-12 per person it just seems that they don't want to get beer into a lot of people's hands, they want to get a lot of beer to a select few. I was hugely anticipating XIII; apricots + wild, how could it go wrong? what a let down.

I can't say I understand these continues weekday releases. No biggie, but what is the thinking?

Sorry to hear the bottle allocation ended up being too much in retrospect.

Bottle releases are time consuming so if you can sell out in a day, and day you choose, why not do it mid week and free up your employees for the weekend when you probably have more customers.

That makes sense. I would imagine, though, that it makes your regular customers (those same folks who are more available on the weekend to visit the taproom) less likely to be able to get the beer. Everything's a tradeoff, I suppose.

Yeah, save a few bucks and some added convenience now to piss off the majority of your customers forever. That should work out great.

To some points above, they know it will sell out so from that perspective it's good business sense to do this on what would otherwise be a slow/dead day in the week when you already know you'll have a busy saturday regardless. the only issue i would see is the 6 bottle limit. a 2 bottle limit would spread the wealth around..at least beyond 1 hour after opening.

generally speaking(and not directed at Penrose), this is the major reason why i've given up really trying for anything "special" now. I work 7-5ish during the week, and I just can't go sit at a Binny's at 2PM on a Tuesday or go to a brewery at 11AM on a weds morning. It's just not worth the hassle anymore. I think the arc of a 'beer geek' goes like this:

Start drinking beer: "you know, this blue moon tastes kinda good. that hoegaarden i bet would be good too"
Early stages: "I really don't like wheats anymore. But this Lagunitas is great. And high alcohol too!
The 'Boom Years': "i'll only drink double IPA's and i love barrel aged stouts too. I need to go hit up the 4 Binny's in the area so I can get my one four pack of BCS. Better call my girlfriend too so I can get two at each store".
The Later Years: "I heard Darkness is coming out today. I'll try to get one..Oh they're sold out by noon? That sucks. I'll try again for parabola in a few months".
Rebirth: "This is too much of a pain in the ass and I'm too old to be chasing trucks from liquor store to liquor store. Let me see what's good on the shelf.."
