I thought A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale tasted like red chili peppers and orange. I only had one 6-pack from this year though.

Habanero is a pepper, so how about Habanero Sculpin.
    It is yummy!

I do love Habanero Sculpin, but I probably should have specified pepper from peppercorns

    I did enjoy that one!

Sam Adams has a few spring/summer seasonal beers with grains of paradise and black pepper alongside a pale wheat beer. Summer Ale, Cold Snap, White Lantern, maybe some others

I perceive black pepper in Goose Island Sofie. Maybe some other BAs could make some other Saison recommendations to you.

    Cheers!

As long as you're throwing that idea out there, Jack, I'll add that I find Allagash White to have peppercorns up the wazoo. Moreso than many saisons.

Not rare are or new or anything, but....

I think Avery Maharaja has some peppery notes. Same with Lagunitas Hop Stoopid, Elevation 7437 (although I have heard that this beer has declined since I tried it a while back), and Russian River Blind Pig.

Hmm, I don't recall picking up that flavor in Allagash White. I suppose I should try this beer again. The 'classic' Belgian Wit yeast strain(s) do not produce pepper flavors; or at least they never did in the Wits that I have brewed.

    Cheers!

No- I'm actually saying that I pick it up as one of their spices. Almost too obvious to me, actually, but as you are so fond of observing we all have a different palate. Definitely try it again and let me know if you pick it up.

Didja ever see the Brewmasters episode where Sam put pepper in Allagash White for Batali?

No- that's not ringing a bell at all, but I thought I saw the whole series. What happened?

If you can trade for it, Treehouse Haze showcases an awesome tropical fruit taste initially and finishes with an amazing peppery, grapefruity finish

I don't think I've ever tasted pepper in a beer, and am shocked to hear some of my favorite beers in this thread (A little sumpin sumpin, blind pig, Grunion)

Either my palate is off, or a bunch of posters have their thumb up their ass!

We are slowly turning into the wine crowd....

I just had a Fortune Teller single-hop Mosaic from Wiens Brewing (Temecula) and I thought it had a hot, spicy flavor. Hop oils I presume.

Sam is with Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich, and he is pitching his ideas for the Birreria beers. He gave them some Namaste with cracked pepper, and then some Allagash White with a different cracked pepper. The scene was very memorable for me for three reasons: 1) they seemed to like the Allagash concoction much more , 2) it speaks really well of Allagash that Sam would use their beer in the first place, and 3) I was wondering, is this a common way to pitch a beer... using someone else's as a starting point?
