I agree- I would say the closest comparison would probably be Stone Old Guardian.

Ever had one at 9 years? My bottle shop has a 2005 and a fresh one for me, I'm considering spending a few bucks to do a side-by-side.

Had one fresh and I loved it. But I agree with what others are saying if you don't care for the teeth melting qualities that the hops have I would age it. I love barleywines so I have one from 2012 and 2 for this year I plan on opening in about 7-8 years. If I happen to get more I'll be opening them every 5 years or so. I will report back when I am about 40.

Is say don't waist your money on 120 and get Evil Twin Molotov cocktail! It tastes better, ages better, and a four pack costs as much as one 12 oz bottle. This is in no way a beer to be enjoyed fresh. Same goes with olde school and wws. Remember though, it's all based on your personal preference. Don't let the beer world tell you what's good or worth aging. Experiment, beer is supposed to be fun. Cheers

My only experience is with a 2006 edition that i sampled in 2012 (mostly aged in my beer fridge in my garage) and it was sublime! I have bought a bottle each in 2013 and 2014 (that are in the same beer fridge) and am contemplating drinking both fresher but why mess with the sublime!

I think it would be worth trying, though I haven't had one quite that old. Oxidation at 7 years is not that bad, so a couple years on, it might be more noticeable, but I'd be very surprised if the beer had gone over to being fully oxidized.

I had a 2012 earlier this year and really liked it. I don't mind it fresh and when I had it with a year on it, I preferred it fresh. But after having one with a couple years or so, I liked it best. They are hard to find sometimes and when I do get another, it won't leave my cellar for a while.

If I can get it on tap, I like 120 fresh. I enjoy it even more, though, from an aged bottle I opened a 3.5 year old bottle and it tasted like a dessert wine. Some might not enjoy that but I thought it was awesome.

Recently had a 2011 and didn't really care for it. Had a fresh one recently and it was definitely more my speed. If anyone is looking I've got another 2011 as well as a 2012 and 2013 to trade.

I wish DFH would sell a 3 year vertical packaged together.

That would be great for quite a few things, 120 and WWS, Founders Imperial Stout, the list could go on. Only it should be a 4 year vert, fresh-3 years old, for one thing so it could be a 4-pack, and also because this thread makes it seem like 'with 3 years on it' is the best age for DFH 120.

Opened an extra 2011 I had at a mini-share a few weeks ago and it tasted real good, barleywine-ish, and not much hoppyness.

I have a 5-year vertical that I'm going to open/share in a month or two and I'll report back what everyone thought.
