I have some plastic containers that I will be using for storing specialty grains. I was cleaning them out today and unfortutely the generic oxy-clean stuff I used in the long soak of the first containers was not odor-free (fortunately, I ran out of that stuff and had to use a new container, non-perfumed, on the others). I thought I had used this before with no problem, but it must have been different stuff. The plastic is quite aromatic with alpine floral freshness. Any ideas on removing the odor? I currently am soaking it in a different, aroma free oxy stuff, but am not sure it will do much to remove the odor (as the perfume is clearly is meant to persist in an oxy-clean solution).
I would recommend that you firstly soak the container with Bleach/Water solution and then follow up with a sunlight ‘soak’. It has been reported that this process successfully gets the pickle smell out of HDPE buckets that used to contain pickles. Please report back whether this worked for your containers. Cheers!
