If you can judge a beer on the environment in their pub, count me way out.

Did you have the Malted Milk Ball recently? I had it last week and while it tasted very familiar to what they had done previously, I thought there was something off that I couldn't place. I had my buddies try it and one of them said it had a nuttiness to it. I agreed with him and I'm quite sure I never noticed that before. I didn't care for that flavor in that beer.

I had it about 3 months ago at a bar, I tapped it so I know it was fresh /on clean lines and thought it was pretty tasty-didn't notice any off flavors. It was on tap for a couple days and was the only time I had it. Could be QC or consistency issues who knows.

Very thin. Too much carbonation. Minor flavors. Bourbon fast up front but gone too quickly. Very little mouth feel at all. Disappointed, but will give them another shot down the road because they are still young. After Bourbon Barrel Aged Plead the 5th it will take a lot to impress.

The distribution is impressive, seeing these sitting on shelves at Meijer for $15.98 is a welcome sight. At this point, that is as far as my positive comments go.

With Kindness was lackluster at best. I picked up very little, if any, Barleywine characteristics. There was no richness, no chewiness, no dark fruit or caramel. What was there in abundance was plenty of barrel flavor. A poor offering IMO, based on the product it seems like there was too much arrogance behind the Killing Craft message.

I may still try Kill em All, but my expectations are tempered. I have enjoyed many of Perrins beers in the past, at this point they really need to step up what they put in bottles.

Kill Em All tastes pretty good, but it's super thin, light, and excessively carbonated. I won't be buying a second bottle despite the reasonable price tag and mass availability.

Had a Kill Em All last night, tasty but why on earth would you put such a wimpy stout in Van Winkle Family Reserve barrels? Seems like kind of a waste. I'd rather have a Dragons Milk, 4 12oz for the price of one of these.

Just opened a With Kindness. Something smells off right from the get go. I kind of enjoyed Kill Em All but With Kindness is just not good beer in my opinion. Literally on the verge of dumping the rest of the bottle which hurts since it was a $15 bottle.

Have you had With Kindness? Not trying to hate but I thought it was pretty awful/harsh. Kill Em All on the other hand had great flavor from the barrel.

Anybody know what's going on over at Perrin? Very disappointed in what beers they're adding vs. taking off/no longer making lately.

From what I understand, Malted Milk Ball is gone forever as the recipe belonged to the brewer who ended up at Bravo Zulu by Traverse City. Once MMB went off, I was disappointed but they sold me on Black Goat and Lil' Griz - both of which are no longer available, either.

The company line on Goat and Griz are the same - we have to make more and let it age. I was told the same thing about MMB back when it went off-tap this past summer.

Wouldn't they know beforehand what they have/don't have and have some ready to go? Especially for the winter months where most enjoy the bourbon-aged beers. On top of that, the Beer Advocate page for Goat says it's now retired.

My fear is that the recipes for the quality bourbon-aged ales went north with MMB and Perrin is unsuccessfully trying to push us -- well, me at least -- to the bottled garbage that has been coming off their line lately.

Kinda' sad as Perrin was my favorite brewery, but there was literally nothing on the menu today that even interested me a little bit. Definitely wishing OddSide was closer to the house at this point!

Don't know anything about this but I do know that I had Malted Milk Ball on tap at Perrin when I went up there to pick up bottles of Kill Em All & With Kindness on Nov 26. Btw, MMB tasted great as usual

Unless there's some side contract I don't believe a brewer can just take his recipe and not let his former employer brew the beer so not sure why they wouldn't brew MMB again. You also gotta get out more if your favorite brewery is Perrin!

This is partially true. The brewer brought MMB with him from another brewery that owned the recipe. When that was discovered by that brewery they called out Perrin. Perrin offered to destroy what they had left and the other brewer allowed Perrin to sell through the rest of the beer that they had as long as they agreed not to make it again.

Yes - I filled up a few growlers and had a wonderful Thanksgiving. From what I understand, that was the last of MMB; the kegs were in the back since they took it off over the summer. To have it on-tap for a few weeks was like that old girlfriend who showed up at your door one night, made you remember the good times, then was gone by morning.

I do need to get out more! Agree there.

But Perrin was closest to my house, I love their food and as mentioned, a huge fan of MMB and Black Goat which seem to be universally-liked. There isn't a single beer on their current menu that I would consider above average.

Interesting. Heard so many different stories, but that was the most common one that seemed most likely based on everything I put together. Do you happen to know which brewery owns the recipe?

The Brewery is only about 2 - 2.5 years old. They may not have their seasonal release plan down yet. So it's entirely possible they're not preparing to age stuff in advance. But they are making some good beers, and You'd Bretta Run is definitely above average.

Finally picked up the RIS today. It sounds like it might be a good idea to let this one age a bit...

Really digging both although they are still a little hot. If this mellows out in the bottle as good as I hope...
