I see there is virtually no mention of this beer on ba so I want to rectify this issue. I had a Perrin's Big Konas as Hopcat last night and it totally blew me away. I generally like brown ales so I have had my fair share of them in the past. Big Konas leaves all of them in the dust. The chocolate and coffee are very well balanced. You can expect to see me recommending this beer to anyone who posts a "what beer should I get in Grand Rapids" thread on ba. Below is a description of Big Konas from Perrin's website. Don't be scared off by the poop - this beer is legit. Big Konas ABV 7.4% IBU 33 Big Konas is the 4th installment in our Killing Craft Series. This beer was brewed with some of the finest ingredients in the world including cacao nibs from Equador and Ghana, Pacari Piura Nube chocolate bars (winner of the 2013 international chocolate awards) and Indonesian civet coffee. Civet coffee or “kopi luwak” is one of the rarest and most exquisite coffees in the world. The Asian Palm Civet, a small mammal, eats wild coffee berries and poops out the seeds. The seeds are then collected, washed (thoroughly we hope), roasted, and sold at top dollar. The digestion process of the Asian Palm Civet makes for the smoothest coffee in the world. Also, we used wild harvested civet coffee, as opposed to caged civet coffee.
I don't think it has been bottled yet. And they may not bottle it at all. Your best bet is at Perrin's or at a good craft beer bar.
