I've got some time to kill before a wedding at 3 in petoskey at the terrace inn and thought it might be fun to pre-game some before hand. What do the locals suggest? Thanks in advance.
Not much in the way of bottle shops around there, but Petoskey Brewing and Beards Brewery are decent spots to go try something local. I think PBC is better than Beards, but both are worth going to.
There's Scooby's bottle shop on 31 as you're heading north into town, on the east side of the road. I haven't been in there but drove by it a few times. Might be decent.
It's the best shop in the area, but the selection is small. If I had the money, I'd put a dedicated craft shop in the area.
Petoskey brewery is definitly a good choice. There is also a place not far from them that can have a decent selection of draft and bottles. I can't remember the name but it is a bowling alley, restaurant, bar, with pool tables and such, just east of the brewery a ways.
You may be thinking about Toski's. http://www.toskisandsmarket.com/the-beer-list-20/. Toski's is about a quarter mile to half mile north of Petoskey Brewing. I was Toski's about a year ago. I can't remember what I found but I know I got some decent craft beer there. I was on the lookout for a week in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area and Toski's was the best I found.
Just a thought If I was in your shoes. I think I would go to Shorts for lunch. And pickup a couple of growlers. From what I know Belaire is less than an hour away
I was in Petoskey last summer and was surprised at how little craft beer was available there. Though, I did find some good stuff at Toski's, who also had some really great gourmet food / snacks as well. There was also a gas station / liquor store hybrid there (Though I can't recall the name) that had a few good finds as well, though their selection was a bit sparse. I did drive to Shorts one day, though the trip is more like an hour and half drive if I remember correctly.
As far as good bottle shops go, I was thinking about this the other day and came to the conclusion that there isn't a real good bottle shop there because Petoskey is such a seasonal/tourist town. Six months out of the year traffic is greatly reduced. It'd probably be difficult to sustain a good bottle shop during those months. They'd be very lean. IMO.
I agree, though I think they are growing closer to a point where one would be sustainable. Petoskey, to me at least, feels like Traverse City used to. At some point it will be large enough to sustain a bottle shop year round.
