Has anyone else tried this? It's supposed to be a BBA American/ Double Imperial Stout...

Cracked one open last night and it doesn't taste anything like that. Super thin, over-carbed and slightly sour. Wondering if I got an infected bottle or if they are all like that.

    LMK, thanks!

Did you sign up just to post this thread and give it a bad review?

I would start by contacting the brewery and asking them if their are any known issues with the beer that they know of.

I signed up so I could ask if other people are experiencing the same thing or if the bottle I had last night is a 1 off.

Yeah either infected or a poor example of a BA stout. I was really disappointed.

The beer was released 3 days ago...you really think they would admit to any "known issues"?

They were pouring samples from bottles at the release

I would like to think that some breweries if asked would let a consumer know if they are receiving feedback like this. The problem is, like you said, it was released 3 days ago and even if its on tap, it doesn't mean it would have the same issues and they may not even know about issues with bottles if this is the case.

They seem like a newer brewery (1-2 years maybe) so I am sure they are still more concerned with customer service than larger breweries are.

In that case, it really sounds like you may have just had a bad bottle.

    @MrWoooo
I would contact the brewery and let them know just so they have record of it. They may toss you a new bottle or a few free drinks next time you go in.

Sour brewery produces a possibly infected stout. Shocking.

Nothing ill towards PC as I enjoy their sour offerings, but I skipped this release due to concerns it would be infected.

I'm on the westside, near Culver City, if any respectable BA cares to join me.

Cracked a bottle a couple of days ago. So gassy, thin - was worried about this bottle upon purchase as all the yeast just sat at the bottom. Very disappointed... I know this is a fairly new brewery, but maybe they were a little over their heads to release a BA stout this early? Was told by one of the employees they are releasing this same beer with Brett. No need to change anything I guess, it's already sour :slight_frown:

Brett on it's own does not make beer sour. But it could definitely make an imperial stout overcarbed and thin.

If all these infection reports(here and untappd) are true, I don't understand how they could have released this as a clean BA stout(according to their social media). It's not like these issues developed over time...

If it wasn't for picking up my infinite wishes bottles I wouldn't have been at the release since I was a bit skeptical about it, I am no expert, but it tasted like watered down whiskey.

I just called PC and this is what he said that they have been getting some mixed reviews about the product.

    1) The flavor is what was expected. They used an experimental yeast strain from Belgium so the flavor is different from what people are expecting.
    2) The over-carbing is definitely an issue.
    3) He said because I took the time out of my day to call in, he offered me a full refund for my 2 bottles if I go in and bring back the one that hadn't been opened.

Always glad to see a brewery willing to make a customer satisfied.

Was this ever mentioned on the bottle or in their social media promotion of it?

Well that's good! I sent them a message on FB asking more hypotheticals than anything else, no response yet.

For those that may have tasted both... Is this kind of like that Zwanze stout? It should be labeled a "sour dark ale" more than an "imperial stout"? I'm also curious if they mentioned anything in the release info and social media about the experimental yeast, or that it's not what people might expect from a stout.

I don't recall any mention of a Belgian yeast strain or any other details about how long it spent in barrels.

When they popped a bottle on site it did gush.
