Mystic Infinity is a really nice, enjoyable black IPA. If you like the style, its well worth picking up.

I had thought it was Blue Hour, a Phase Three described 'Vermont Style' DIPA, which was mentioned as possibly being their take on Heady Topper or HF IPAs. It didn't seem anything like HT to me (or what I recall HT anyway).

    Really nice, enjoyable beer
    Black IPA

    Pick 1.

I drink just about every style of beer but can't remember a single good black IPA I've ever had.

PW/4H Black Tuna is the only Black IPA I remember enjoying, albeit its from a very small sample size

To each their own. Like I said, if you like the style its really good ... if not, its not going to be the beer to change your mind.

... What I will say about this one (and the other black IPAs) that I have had and liked is that the malts were not very roasty. If they skew very roasty, and use those fruity hops, I don't like it. If the roastiness is restrained, I enjoy the fruity hops. If the roast is prominent, I just want earthy or piney hops - a la an American stout.

I enjoy black IPAs occasionally (have a pack of Black Hearted in my fridge now). I agree with @KCUnited that Black Tuna is one of my favorites to date, as the honey cuts the roastiness a bit. I also enjoy Close Encounter when its fresh. Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet 1.5 (the IIPA) is also one of my favorites, but its been a few years since I've had that one.

For me, its comes down the hop combo compared with roasted malts. Sometimes they are very roasty and extremely bitter and its off-putting. And i'm someone that favors bitter IPAs. But together, it can just be a bit much.

Probably some bias, but I had a pretty good Hill Farm one from the Society & Solitude series. But it’s not a go to style for me

I like the reviews, but I don't have any interest in a black IPA. As HawksBeerFan says, I also can't ever remember a good black IPA. Life is too short to keep revisiting styles I don't enjoy.

"Stout sessions" just popped up on Oznr. This Sunday you can reserve a table for 4 and split a bottle of Eunoia batch 4.

It says "Coming Soon" but I tried to check out and it let me :astonished:

Hill farmstead is the king of Vermont so maybe they were trying to replicate that

Wondering if they used the Vivid Light base for Mystic Infinity.

I decided to place my first P3 delivery order today, even though I get good distro these days (of course my wife is intrigued by the Lulz). Wish there would have been a couple more options this week, but you can't beat a $5 delivery fee. Looking forward to Saturday!

    Did you like it?

By base do you mean hop combo?

I agree. It drinks lighter and more hop forward than other black IPA’s I’ve had. Definitely isn’t over roasty to me.

Also, I wouldn’t say HF and Heady are alike at all when it comes to IPAs. Heady is great but HF is in a different league. Every beer I’ve had from there had been world class.

Nice article on the GI/P3 collaboration with some interesting tidbits as well. Per the article, the release sale is tentatively scheduled for this Friday. Sharing an excerpt here too.

Their last update to members yesterday on FB / today via e-mail was that it hit another snag and may be another week out.
