Thoughts on this release? I thought it was huge miss... I'm a bit biased I realize being that I'm a huge fan of Celebrator and that beer sort of sets the bar for the style in my opinion.

That aside I still felt it to be pretty lackluster... Could be nice after some decent cellaring, but why bother when I can just have a Celebrator anytime and it's always going to be great.

    What do you think?

Also should mention I thought Super Krypton was a miss as well, very one-dimensional... Same goes for Puzzler.

Anyone else think Phillips has been really inconsistant with their limited releases? Or is it just me?

Par for the course with Phillips. They have interesting ideas (and great labels lately), but their beers usually end up like you say, pretty lackluster. Good beer, just nothing mind blowing.

I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. Fairly drinkable for a doppelbock though - preferred it to Captivator.

Haven't tried this year's Trainwreck (saw your post giving it approval though, good to know) yet because I'm saving the bottle I have for Christmas for a barleywine tasting with my bros-in-law: 2011 OCD, 2012 OBD, Trainwreck, Mill Street.

I really liked the Super Krypton but I hear where you're coming from. It had this strange tea-like quality to it that appealed to me.

I tried the Green Reaper, Eric Jourdan NW Ale, and Puzzler at the same session - loved the Reaper, liked the NW Ale, hated the Puzzler. It just tasted like burnt coffee to me.

Didn't really like this one on tap. Tasted soapy actually, and Donnelly usually has pretty clean lines.

I wasn't big on the Instigator, but I liked the Trainwreck and Super Krypton. It seems like opinions on the Puzzler are pretty split, it seemed like people loved or hated it.
