Philly beer recommendations

    I live in Texas and my good buddy is asking me for some good beer recommendations that you can find easily in Philly. He's looking to stock up for a party tomorrow night with people who enjoy good craft beer. No particular style. I have no idea what's down there so any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

    Philly is actually north of Texas. So "up there" would probably be the more correct phrase.

    And I fear you're out of luck. Aint no good beer in Philly.

    Depends on what type of beer he is looking for and if he wants local flavors. Seeing as he's buying for a party, I'll just list things that are "affordable" in cases. Here's a list of things off of the top of my head that I've seen on shelves recently or that is always on shelves:

    APA/IPAs:
    Troegs Perpetual IPA
    Victory Dirtwolf, Hop Ranch, and Prima Pils (I know, not an APA or IPA)
    Cigar City Jai Alai and Hopped on the High Seas
    Ithaca Flower Power
    Dark Horse Crooked Tree
    Six Point Resin

    Stouts/Porters/etc:
    Cigar City Jose Marti
    Troegs Dead Reckoning
    Wyerbacher Old Heathon
    Troegs Troegenator
    Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

    Anything Founders, Lagunitas, or Bells

    I can list more later. Have to vacate the computer for a little while.

    In his defense, the distro in Philly fluctuates pretty often. A month or two ago, I would have laughed at the prospect of being able to get Cigar City brews on a regular basis, but alas now it is a reality.

    Add Russian River to the list of ones to pick up. Philly has a tremendous amount of beer, possibly the best overall distribution in the country.
