<Philly Beer Scene published a Philly Beer Week guide>

And it was fairly useless given that most events had not yet been posted.

Many bars will not publicly post their events until the beer is either in hand or confirmed by the distributor. Bars have been burned in the past by setting up an event with Beer X and Brewer Y, but then are told a week before the beer won't make it (<cough> or more is allocated to a much bigger bar <cough>) and the brewer is not coming.

yeah, i get that. didn't mention it since it seems like a given and other posts referenced that. in your scenario, that would definitely be the proper thing to do (wait). BBE wasn't a good example in retrospect since they can advertise a beer style event with no specifications as to what breweries, and therefore, no hearts broken. i like that they brought in some foreign stuff though

I remember there were some issues last year, but not the specifics as I didn't make it down to Philly for beer week last year. Every time I've been there, the place has rocked.

CTH at logan square is new (opened less than a year ago) but its a huge place. Not sure how they will handle this but I have been to Bru, Varga, Khyber, BrainBridge, POPE, Cambridge, CTH @Univercity CIty for few PBW events. If a beer is highly sought out it will gone in less than hour of tapping. Ex. Kybher always have Founder event (its tomorrow @ 6)KBS, CBS were kicked in 30 mins.

That being said I am not sure if BrewYork will pull that much crowd.

never been to either. went to khyber, bainbridge, strangeloves, bru, & pretty much all the fishtown places last year. checked out mccrossens during cbc, then bru again. jerry's was quite busy for the Other Half even last year, but if you showed up a few minutes before tap time you were fine... i like finback just as much, not sure how others are.

favorites from last year were probably the Other Half event & Lost Abbey/Port at Khyber

it is next to impossible to get served at bru. some hiccups are understandable given the locale and the nature of these events, but i showed up 30 minutes before tap time, got a seat at the bar, no taps were up at tap time, bartenders were scrambling for another 20 minutes changing taps, then when they finally started pouring, it still took an hour to get a beer. sitting at the bar. last year, there was a wait as well, not nearly as long but due to crowds (totally get it). i think it also had to do with them pouring drafts into pitchers, then serving out of those, was not a fan of that, but whatever. then the credit card system went down. learned my lesson about not carrying cash during pbw that day. felt horrible for the bartenders, just trying to manually enter cards and failing. some guy who i presume to be the manager appeared, asked about the holdup, and then essentially told them they were on their own to figure it out and disappeared. it took a full hour just to get my check. i had enough cash for what i ordered minus tip, but obviously i wasn't going to do that. they brought in huge names and events esp during CBC, but they simply can't seem to handle it. i wish i was exaggerating about the place, but i am not. if you're like me and like to hop from place to place, or if venturing out to CC is not the norm for you, i'd either make it your last stop, or just expect to be there a while.

I went to Jerry for other half and walked out...it was croweded as hell and service was awful...so jsut walked to Sancho Pistolas. Then went to Brainbridge for OH on Sunday. Also, I agree with Bru...its a shit storm. I was there last year for Half Acre event...it wasn't bad. Most of these venues are really small and cant handle large crowd. Unfortunately, if you are after highly sought out beer ....there is no way to skip it...However, I still think Barrier/Finback event will not be crazy

I used live in Old city, couple of blocks from Khyber and always loved hopping. I am really going to miss this PBW.

are you near hamilton? the uno's over there seems to be having some good stuff coming. i do remember the other half getting really crazy, but it was well after tap time at that point. i watched reps from Other Half (recognized them from a festival) wait to get served! khyber is a gem, and i want to say they did something with the seating bc i was able to walk up and get goodies despite being crowded. there's really no good way otherwise. wish lost abbey was there again
i'm in fishtown mostly. both areas are great for bar-hopping.

I moved to Hoboken, NJ last August. Eventhough I do have access to OH, HF and other great beers on regular basis. Yet, I still miss Philly beer scene and all the regular spots. Fishtown reminds me of Pizza Brain/Paisano's/Sancho...damn it

In general, CTH is professional as they come in terms of event organization. I don't expect a huge crowd at this one though. However, if you get there on the early side, you may have to sift through post-work Friday happy hour shenanigans. I plan on being there for dinner with my family.

@PhillyTapFinder thanks for the info. PBW is probably one of the few times someone can expect me to be early. decisions, decisions as always.
one of my favorites from the past was the homebrew & hot dogs event Memphis usually has in their beer garden. could have sworn it's usually 'round the end of PBW, maybe i'm wrong.

I went to the Cigar City/Perennial event at Strangeloves last year and was hoping for a repeat, but haven't heard anything yet. There's no question CBC has impacted PBW. Fewer events overall and I know of at least one place that is sitting out PBW because it still has tons of CBC inventory to move.

yes, that was always ones of my favorite events as well. so much talent among our homebrewers here. not sure if they are having it this year. i haven't heard anything about it.
