I'm glad someone finally started a thread on this. I'm still looking at the events and trying to decide. It doesn't seem as good as it has been in past years, but at the same time at least there aren't a whole lot of weird places that aren't really known as beer spots involved this year.

I’ve noticed the event listings are updating constantly this weekend too, so who knows what else will pop up! I’m with you on Casa Agria. Trying to convince @larryi86 to drive up and meet me at that one. The tap list is stacked.

Obviously, now that I live in PDX I don't go to Philly Beer Week any more, but when I lived in Baltimore, I thought it one of the premier events in the Mid Atlantic (and so would always drive up for some of the weekend events). I was always impressed by the amazing array of new breweries that would show up for this event (still remember the incredible Funky Buddha event at Capone's years ago).

That being said, I'm completely blown away that Casa Agria is coming out for this event. I've never seen their beer any place in California, and the only time I ever saw a keg in Oregon was during a de Garde anniversary event at the brewery in Tillamook.

Once again, looks like an incredible line-up for this always outstanding beer week.

Well I think it was the first, but hmmmmmmmm, I don't know, it seems like the gild might be off the lily now. There are some good events but as I remember it you normally used to have to chose what event to go to because there were 3 or 4 going on at the same time and it doesn't seem like that now. Maybe Philly is losing its beer mojo???

Or maybe the 'issue' is that the Philly area already has such good availability of year round beers that Philly Beer Week was something to look forward to but not so much today?

My memory was that 10 years ago the 'excitement' was being able to obtain 'whales' so you went to places/events to get beer that you could not buy otherwise. Right now I can go to my local beer retailers and there are more beer choices than I even know which beers to select. Of course if I 'write off' the beers that are several months old my choices do narrow down to a manageable selection. Needless to say but it takes a fair bit of time to pick up the bottles (or cans) to read how old the beers are so a final purchase of a 6-pack of beer that is less than x months old could be a lengthy process.

Or just go to a local brewery/brewpub and pick up a high quality 4/6-pack that I know is fresh and purchase that way instead?

    Cheers!

The Event calendar only lists a couple of events for Mont Co. Anyone know of any other places out in that area of the suburbs hosting events other than Capone's?

I always enjoyed going to a Funky Buddha event, like Churchville Inn would host, but it doesnt seem there is one this year. Also, am i missing it or is Teresa's Next Door not doing their annual 2-2-2 days during beer week? Always was a must stop for 2 dollar pliny or blind pig one of the days.

I don't think Churchville did any events last year, so I'm thinking they are not doing anything this year.

I'm bummed that the Hulmeville Inn isn't doing anything this year either.

I'll be hitting up some events in the Center City area on the 2nd.

    Looking forward to another PBW!

Do any places around town get out-of-market bottles/cans for PBW?

TBH, most of the events at Churchville and Hulmeville were pretty awful the past few years. A bunch of local tap takeovers where almost nothing kicked, and then the kegs would hang around for weeks.

Pretty much sums up PBW for me anymore, really.
