Will be staying in the Rittenhouse Square area in Oct. So far on my list of stops i have is:

    Nodding Head brewery
    Monk's Cafe
    Eulogy Belgian tavern

Any more places worth stopping at in this area? Thanks and Cheers!

Eulogy is not very close if you're thinking about walking. It's in Old City, about 15 blocks from Monk's. If you're going to be in Old City, I would recommend the Khyber Pass, Bierstube, and maybe even the Philadelphia over Eulogy, though I don't particularly like Eulogy. Otherwise in Rittenhouse you should pick from Monk's, Tria, the Good Dog, Jose Pistola's, Nodding Head, and Misconduct. Jose Pistola's is my favorite of that bunch, but I'm also not a big fan of Monk's. Varga Bar, the Boilermaker, the Farmers Cabinet and McGillin's wouldn't be too much of a hike for you either.

Thank's Steeeve i will update my list, we will most likely be cab hopping while in town, looking for some good beer and laid back atmosphere.

Indeed, if you're planning to hop around in cabs, I would also recommend the Sidecar, Brauhaus Schmitz, Pub on Passyunk East (POPE), and Kite and Key. All should be less than $10 each way from Rittenhouse.

Don't forget about South Philly Taproom while at POPE and Devil's Den. Get the wild boar tacos!

If you're looking for local brews, check out Standard Tap and Johnny Brenda's in Northern Liberties/Fishtown too.

You may want to see if the various places have a website, most do, and then see if they may have a Special Event while you are in town. If so, they tend to be much better than a casual visit.

One of the Tria's should be close by and I like both of them.

    Indispensable for any Philly trip:

I would plan your visits around what is pouring at the particular bars those days.

P.S. If you are looking mostly for rares (Russian River, Hill Farmstead, 3F, etc), I would prioritize as follows:

    1) Monks
    2) Boilermaker or Farmer's Cabinet (same owners)
    3) Pub on Passyunk East (POPE)

Eulogy's list is fairly static, but they have an awesome bottle list. Tria is killing it right now with rare beers but they can be hit-or-miss. The above 3 are always pouring good/rare stuff.

Has Three Floyds ever been on tap in Philly?

Yessir it has, but only rarely. A few were on tap during Beer Week in June. Dreadnaught and Arctic Panzer Wolf were also on tap last month at Hawthorne's.

I believe he's probably referring to Drie Fonteinen.

true, but i was referring to the original post telling people where to go for rare beers such as Russian River, Hill Farmstead, 3F, etc. Since the three floyds thing was a one time thing and no one can reasonably expect to find them anywhere in the city right now that the poster was referring to Drie Fonteinen which actually can be found around the city.

This is the conundrum. I have repeatedly been "corrected" about telling people that they will not be finding PtE in bottles here because a single store had a handful of old PtE bottles that were clearly grey market when they first opened a few years ago.

Edit: In that instance what the guy said about FFF being available briefly from one place during PBW is accurate, but it is also good to point out to someone visiting that they're no longer distributed here and that they shouldn't expect to find any here.

To clarify, the FFF thing was not a one-time deal. It has shown up several times in Philly over the past few months (once in July, twice in August), always at Hawthornes. There were rumors that their sister bar, the Cambridge, will be pouring several FFF drafts as well during their official opening, but that remains to be seen. I would assume the trend of FFF being available in Philly will continue.

I had Arctic Panzer Wolf 2 weeks ago. $11 a pour, which is pretty outrageous, but what are you going to do if you live in Philly and love FFF?

Yeah, the Cambridge had Rabbid Rabbit a few weeks ago.
