Yeah it's not a big deal but it means he should hit it on his way back to Philly instead of on the way out.

I really liked the Alexander Inn on South 12th street the one time I stayed in the city. It's in Center City, close to at last 5 good beer bars and the regional line, has parking, and is cheap. The rooms are small so don't expect much, but they are clean and it's quiet. For one night, I'd stay there again.

oh, I'm not ragging on you. The OP even mentioned Tired Hands. But Capone's is another great example.

I don't know if it's because there have been a lot of new great brewpubs that have opened outside of the city limits or we've all recommended the same spots in Center City over and over that makes these outside of Philly spots mentioned so much. But open up any Philly thread and it's pretty much the same thing. If people used the search tool or Places then we might not have a "Philly trip" thread every week.

good point. unfortunately every regional forum has the same thing with threads about Chicago, Boston, Portland, San Diego, Denver, etcetc...

the portland guys made this catch-all master thread (which is tremendously helpful if you're planning a trip like i am): http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland.61551/

maybe there could be a similar philly one eventually, preferably split between city and suburbs.

Some "going to X place" threads are warranted as long as the question is specific and not just "I want to go do Philly, where do I go." In this case, the OP specifically wanted to know about Tired Hands, public transportion and things nearby so it was useful. Don't know why city folk complain any time someone mentions the 'burbs. Yeah, throwing Capone's out there would have been offtopic but the other recommendations make complete sense.

howopeeps - If your looking to be back in the city by the end of the day, start at Pig ot Tj's and they are both open for lunch. Then work your way back towards Philly and hit TH at 4:00 when they open.

Hotel in philly is tough, lots of options and most downtown are nice. I prefer the Loews near City Hall, they usually have specials.

We traded before, so if you do come out to the Pig send me a BM and I'll meet you for a beer. It is less then a mile from my house.

Priceline.com name your own price. Put in 3.5 stars or better for any of the center city neighborhoods and $65.00.

Two weeks ago I stayed at the Embassy Suites on the Parkway for $60.00. Would have been $180 if I had booked straight through the Hotel.

BTW - OP get yourself a "Liberty Pass" (I think that's the name) since it allows you to hop on and off any Septa transportation for the entire day. Otherwise, you'd be paying a few dineros every time you get on the train. If you decide to just do Tired Hands, then it might be a buck or two cheaper to just get the round trip from Center City, but if you do multiple stops it will definitely save you some money. I'll second Priceline for hotels. Never used it in Philly, but have gotten a few sick deals with it before in other cities.

A round trip to tired hands costs $9 if you buy at the window in Suburban or $10 if you buy on the train, I think.
