Will be in town this weekend, I've been doing some research on the best places to hit but wanted to post up here as well. I will be staying smack in the middle of the downtown area, within walking distance of the convention center, Chase field, etc. Any locals have bar and bottle shop recommendations that are close by? Thanks!
There are lots of suggestions around the valley if you search this forum. Most of those suggestions tend toward Scottsdale or the SE valley, though. Maybe someone with more experience in Phoenix proper could chime in? One thing I would definitely recommend looking into, especially if you won't have a car (or plan on drinking too much to drive), is the light rail. It goes right through downtown Phoenix and will take you all the way east to Mesa, and west to some point I'm not totally sure of. The price is really reasonable as well. One major point of interest along the route would be Mill Ave. Should really open up your options.
Thanks @Ten_SeventySix_Brewhouse - just a quick look at my area on Google showed that Angels Trumpet, Mother Brunch, and the Lost Leaf are close by. Angels Trumpet seems to be the one piquing my interest the most (Hopslam on tap?!?!?!), and Lost Leaf seems to have some nice Arizona brews as well as a good selection of others. All within 10 blocks or so of where I'll be. Still interested in more ideas if I'm missing anything close by? Or those hole locals-only hole-in-the-wall suggestions .
I can reccommend Mother Bunch if you're looking for a decent spot to eat that also brews beer. I wouldn't include it in a beer-centric itinerary, though. Never heard of Lost Leaf. I've never been to Angel's Trumpet myself, but have heard lots of good things.
http://www.copperblueslive.com/phoenix/drink/ http://www.provincephx.com/en/craft-beer http://thevig.us/menus/fillmore-menu-drinks/ These places are close too, with a few craft options I don't have in Boise. They're going on the list.
Lost Leaf is kind of a cool little spot. I absolutely love Angel's Trumpet, and it's a must-hit for me whenever I'm in PHX. I was less than enthused with SunUp when i visited in 2014, but i'll have to give it another try.
