I know a lot of people post questions on where to go in Phoenix and I was able to find a lot of info before my recent work trip to the Phoenix area. I wanted to report back where we went and what we liked most.

Lunch at Arizona Wilderness Brewing in Gilbert:
The restaurant side has a casual feel and the food was very solid. We got a flight with 4 of their hoppy offerings and 1 saison. These would be the best IPA's we'd have on the trip, really good stuff. We visited AZ Wilderness last year but this visit cemented it as a must stop.

Dinner at Papago Brewing in Scottsdale:
It's in a bleak strip mall and the interior atmosphere is kind of a bummer. The house beers and tap list are ok but where this place shines is it's food and the self serve bottle selection. The pizzas were good and you can open or buy to-go any of the bottles. They had almost a case of Hopslam as well as Modern Times cans and bombers.

    Wren House Brewing in Phoenix:
This place had the best atmosphere of any location we visited. It's in an awesome old renovated house with an intimate tap room. The Wrenovation hazy IPA and Salinas blackberry gose where standouts.

Lunch at Angels Trumpet Ale House in Phoenix:
We liked the modern interior design and they played some cool indie music. Tap list was very diverse but not many standouts. They had some eclectic food that we really enjoyed, I recommend the BBQ brisket grilled cheese. But warning, the house made ketchup is basically marinara.

Dinner at The Attic Ale House in Phoenix:
Upstairs in a small strip mall with a nice view of Camelback Mountain. They had a good beer selection and monster sized burgers. It did have kind of a sports bar vibe though and got pretty loud by 6pm.

    Nice write up.

I thought I would ask if you might have any tips for my family who are in the Phoenix area this week. My dad was just hoping to find some stuff to bring home as opposed to dine in or drink on premise. My aunt is local for directions but wouldn't know any breweries.

I live in Portsmouth, NH on the seacoast so we are used to the (yah you guessed it) hazy ipa's around these parts.

Anything you might recommend or a local would recommend?

I tried to do some research but it's a bit harder as I don't see the same amount of hype, attention and write ups in that area as people tend to obsess over where I am from.

    Thank you again!

The recommends from the above were pretty spot on. There are a lot of great laces in the area but those are really good ones. I also like San Tan and OHSO but their beers are not as top tier as the aforementioned but their atmosphere and food make for great stops. West Valley has some ok places as well. I would recommend Ground Control. The Cicerone there, Ian, keeps a good selection of beers on tap and the atmosphere and food are decent.

Most of my favorite Phoenix area breweries don't bottle but you can stop and get crowlers (32oz cans filled on demand) at a few places. One of my favorites is Goldwater, where they have a fantastic IPA and fill crowlers. They also had a delicious prickly pear ale.

Beer Research Institute doesn't have crowlers but their Morning Sex coffee stout is available for growler fills.

I also enjoyed the beers at Fate though they don't fill outside growlers. Solid hoppy beers including great pale ales. They could stop in and try a few quick tastes and fill some growlers to go if they want.
