The wife and I are headed to Phoenix next week to visit my in-laws. We will be in town from the 8th through the 13th of May. Last time I was in Arizona I wasn't on the craft beer train yet. Any suggestions of places to shop or bars with great taps? Any beer-related events happening? We will be staying west of Phoenix, in the Avondale area if that helps. I really appreciate your responses.
About the only place to drink craft beer out there is Ground Control in Goodyear. For other places just use the directory on BA, it's pretty accurate. You'll want to try to hit Four Peaks, Sun Up, Tops, Papago, Angel's Trumpet and Fate but all of them are in the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe area. For bottled beers you'll have to hit the big box stores like Total Wine and Bevmo out there but Papago and Tops both have outstanding bottle selections if you come into town. There is a first time beer festival on May 11th at Westworld in Scottsdale. their website is http://scottsdalebeerfestival.com/, they also are on facebook. Being that it is the first year of the fest it is anyones guess if it will be good or bad but it looks like a lot of breweries have signed up. You'll miss a sure to be good festival the following week, Ameri-canned.
