So every couple of years during this time, I do a secular lent vow where I give up alcohol for 40 days. It ain't easy seeing as how I love a good beer. But it gives me a chance to clean out the system a bit and to rebuild the cellar that always diminishes over the holiday/winter season. April 2 will be my first taste of that sweet ambrosia of the gods known as beer. Keeping in mind my location in Southern California, I'm looking for ideas on good beers to celebrate my accomplishment, probably a few different ones. I'm generally a fan of all styles, and I already have planned Saison de Lente (a good spring saison and an appropriate enough title beverage), Korbinian (dopplebock being the staple of Lent for Bavarian monks), and of course a Pliny to reacquaint myself with the gold standard among IPAs.

What other beers would you recommend as a good celebration of being able to drink again? Ideally, something outside of these styles so I can get my palate that diversity of flavors it's been missing. I'm looking for something fairly special and unique for its style, albeit not too hard to acquire.

Lol, although that would certainly be a selection worthy of celebration, it's a bit out of my price range assuming I could even locate a bottle.

Ayinger Celebrator. Easily acquired and fits with your theme of Lent.

A few Goose Island Rare should hit the spot.
