I will be staying in Pierre for work next month and was wondering if there are any decent places to get a beer and/or places to get something to eat. Can't find much online, hoping the locals could point me in the right direction. Cheers!
My sister lives in Pierre. Let me reach out to her and hopefully get some recommendations for you. I'll post here again if she gives me some good places to eat and drink.
As a native of SD, good luck! There's certainly a few good places to eat in Pierre (pronounced 'peer') but probably not too much beer wise, but it's been a while since i was in pierre. Odell and Deschuttes should be around, crow peak is the only can/bottler in the state, not great, but not awful. Probably some Summit too. Sick and twisted from the black hills is awful, avoid any of that if you see it on tap. I'll be in Mitchell for a couple weeks, will grab some stuff before leaving Sioux falls, then drinking lots of Odell IPA, which is great.
My folks live there. There is not a ton but it's not a total beer desert. The best restaurant is View 34 but it's upscale and more focused on wine. But downstairs is their pub called Pub 34--it has good and reasonable bar food and the best tap selection that I have found (Crow Peak, Deschutes, Alaskan, etc.). I also like Redrossa--good food and okay beer (I had Deschutes River Ale and an IPA from Alaskan last time I was there). The best place to buy package beer is at Lynn's Dakota Mart. It's not a great beer selection but, like I said, there are worse.
@LMNOP My sister gave me a quick recap. La Minestra has good Italian food. The Crossing has good beer selection. The View is for sale and only open a few days a week. Cattlemen's for South Dakota steak and prime rib. If you're looking for someone to show you around town and is a Lewis and Clark history buff, she could be your guide!
Was up in Pierre twice for work over the summer. It IS a beer desert. The liquor store I stopped in was probably the worst I've ever been in. Went to The View each night for supper, nice bartenders but the best thing on tap was Crow Peaks 11th Hour or Mirror Pond from Deschutes.
