Hello, My wife, two year old daughter, brother-in-law and I want to have lunch and get some beers around after visiting Pike Place Market and before we ride the Argosy Harbor Cruise tour, where would you recommend to go?? I had thought going to Pike Brewing but have read not so good comments about it and now I'm hesitant to take my family there. Any advice of a place in the area would be great. Thanks
My favorite restaurant in the immediate market area is definitely Matts in the Market, but there won't be much beer on the list. Pike Brewing is perfectly family-friendly, but touristy and dark. I'm not a fan.
I was just there last month, it's a very family freindly place and the beer is decent. There is nothing similar close by that I can remember. I am sure a local can better answer this.
Isn't there supposed to be a beer store (or at least a place to find beer) somewhere in the vicinity of the market?
While perhaps not the stereotypical "Northwest" brewpub, Pike will fulfill your needs quite nicely. Yeah, it's a bit (OK, a lot) touristy, but there's generally stuff on tap that might not make it into bottles, or get limited distro. They might still have the Space Needle 50th Anniversary IPA or Saison Houblon on, both are must try brews, IMHO. I generally hit 'em up a couple times a year when I'm in downtown Seatthole
Agree on Pear. Very nice beer selection. I think you can open/consume your purchases right there in their deli. Pear is pretty much across the street from the northern end of Pike Place.
I like Pike beers though I haven't been to the pub for several years. I should. Pike doesn't get enough love IMO. Very decent beer selection. Worthy of note their tripel & the 50th as Terry mentioned.
That Space Needle brew really caught me off guard. I was expecting "just another IPA", and instead, found a beer I liked a lot. Haven't seen bottles in local stores, so it may be gone by now. OTOH, I just bottles of Saison Houblon today for the first time.
If you want family friendly and great restaurant, I also recommend Wild Ginger. I usually hate fusion foods (yes I am Asian) but WG is one of my favorites. I take my clients there all the time. They have fairly good wine selection, but not so much beer. They may have Mac and Jak and Manny's though. Not so family friendly places to visit - Pink Door, Place Pigalle. Also it's not quite in the market, but I really like Tulio. Great Italian restaurant (although some would disagree with me). Kind of pricey though. Beer wise... There is a Taphouse Grill near Niketown (again not so close to the market, but you can definitely walk). You may also enjoy Pike Brewery (I like their beers, but I didn't like their food).
Steelhead is family friendly and has a nice selection of local stuff that's not Manny's or Mac n Jac.
