    It does.

Then again, maybe they hop bursted and don't consider those hops to be "bittering hops", even though they were added to the boil, albeit very late on.

Maybe, but what adds to the suspicion is kowara's review of the beer (his beer?):

"cloudy Pils, triple cocoction, untypical for czech style pilsner: much fruit aromas of mandarin and elder, but very bitter as the style promises, IBU 50, very drinkable, my favourite craft pils"

Much contradiction to style and character perception all around that review.

Was this a special deal or is that the everyday price? They're only like 25 mins away from me....I might need to check them out sometime....

In Germany brewers can sometimes refer to hops such as Magnum and Taurus etc. with higher alpha acid values as bitterhopfen, whilst Hallertauer Mittelfrüh and Spalt Spalter are called aromahopfen. By using "only aroma hops" the bittering addition will be made up of those hops the brewery deems to be aroma hops, and they can tout this as a marker of quality compared with using say Magnum for bittering. Of course with alot of the modern American/German hops the alpha acid value can be quite high for hops which are considered to have good aromatic qualities.

    See for example:

"The aroma hops are - in contrast with bitter hops- very rich in essential oils. In the monastic brewery Andechs solely aroma hops are used."

    No, it could be done.

Pelican Pub's Kiwanda Cream Ale only uses Mt. Hood in the whirlpool, and it measures 25 IBU in the lab. Throw in a bunch of hops with AA about 10 and above, it could get there easy.

50? I'd be intrigued to try that beer.
