I had Victory's Harvest Pils last night...I would take this over Prima Pils, I think.

And I had Brooklyn Brewery's Pilsner recently tool, and definitely worth a try also!

About two weeks ago we finally got this year's Troegs Sunshine Pils in my area, and it's just superb. The hops and malt have a definite presence, but are not overdone, and there is just a smidge of pils-malt dms in the background rounding things out. At 4.5% you can enjoy a sunny afternoon with these babies, that's for sure, and the flavor stays true through a number of glasses (which is not always the case, especially with a lot of American-made versions of the style).

    Foam Pilsner is draught only.

I heard that Tenth&Blake were going to start requiring all Pilsner Urquell to be shipped in cold storage containers within 30 days and all 6-packs will bein a secondary light protected container. Test runs in New York proved what we already know... Cold storage is best.

I am not familiar with Tenth & Blake. Are they the US importers of Pilsner Urquell? Will every Pilsner Urquell sold in the US have to be imported via the dictates of Tenth & Blake? When will these new import ‘standards’ be put into effect?

    Cheers!

Just finished a bottle of SN's Summerfest.

It was rather meh, to be honest.

Another thank you, and more for us.*

I'm interested to know from those of you who find these lighter, more mellow beers so uninteresting, is it because you feel a beer must be so big in character (flavor, hoppiness, bitterness, alcohol) to be good (to you)?

I'm glad my range of enjoyment spans from mellow to hard-hitting, it gives me so many more choices when I go looking for my next six pack.

The balance of pale malt, a sweet touch of Munich malt, and the spiciness of noble hops in the Summerfest are perfect for me on a nice summer afternoon in front of the grill.

(*Just read your review and don't understand where you're getting an earthiness from this beer. Earthiness often comes from the likes of Fuggles hops, even Kent Goldings, but I've never tasted a noble hop with any sort of earthiness. And I'm also unsure where you could be getting skunk from a brown bottled beer.)

I tend to get earthiness and (very) light skunk flavor from noble-hopped pilsners in general. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's what I tasted. I think Summerfest was okay for what it is. Then again, I'm shamelessly biased toward IPA-esque hoppiness most of the time.

The "Life is too short to drink beer that doesn't knock your socks off each and every sip" syndrome, maybe? :slight_frown:

Me, I don't wear socks in good weather, and in the winter I'm just too lazy to be crawlin' around the floor looking for my socks after every beer.

great response and to the point that Pilsners are not to be over hopped and should be enjoyed over a long period .

Whenever I want to show someone what a continental pils takes like, I give them a Trumer. It's dated on the container, and is almost always fresh. I've yet to find an easily available Pils as good and consistent, although New Glarus once did an unplugged Bohemian Pilsner that was easily the best I've ever had.

seconded and thirded. Wright Pils is great if you want a less hoppy and very balanced pilsener.
