Everybody has their own unique palate and will report flavor perceptions accordingly.

Which hop tastes like pine to me may taste very differently to you.

    Cheers!

I would love to read one feed without people dropping the trillium name like the rest of the country has the slightest chance about getting their hands on it.

Funny, all I get from Simcoe is cat pee.

It appears that the compound of 4MMP does not agree with your palate.

Below are some of my previous posts concerning 4MMP:

“Both Simcoe and Citra are high in a compound referred to as 4MMP. Different people will perceive 4MMP differently. There seems to be a genetic component in this as studies indicate that a higher percentage of women will perceive 4MMP as cat pee vs. men.

    For my palate:
    • Simcoe = piney
    • Citra = tropical fruits”
    And:

“4MMP (4-mercapto-4-methylpentan-2-one): each individual will likely perceive this compound differently. 4MMP has flavors of tropical fruit for my palate. Others have reported an aroma/flavor of cat pee. Also, muscat grape/black currant has been mentioned. Another descriptor mentioned is boxwood.”

    Cheers!

Simcoe straight up IMO seems very earthy, I don't get much fruit with this one.

Modus Hoperandi tastes like the bastard child of a douglas fir and a grapefruit.

I love Citra and avoid Simcoe, so... regardless of the compounds, my palate registers Simcoe as that ammonia-like urine aroma. I don't get that from Citra at all.

I homebrew a bit and use Citra almost exclusively as a late-boil flavor and dry-hop aroma hop.

Yup, hop aroma/flavor perception can sometimes be a mystery.

My palate is pretty consistent with these hops: Simcoe = pine and Citrus = tropical fruit.

    Cheers!

What about Great Divide Titan IPA? IIRC, I got a lot of pine and a bit of citrus with none of the sweetness or richness of the tropical fruits. It's also fairly easy to come by...

I recently had a MIkkeller/Sly Fox Simcoe Hopped IPA which might have been the best combo of pine/grapefruit I ever had. However, not sure if it has a wide distro or even if it will be produced again. For the widely distributed - Finestkind, 2 Hearted, Sculpin.
