Picked up a six-pack tonight that I'll get into tomorrow. Does Ballast Point use real pineapple or natural flavor as a flavor enhancement?

    "it's ok, but..."
    "it's good, but..."
"worth trying but i won't be buying any more"
"worth trying but i wish i hadn't bought a whole sixpack"

this beer is 17 dollars a sixpack in philly and these are the best things that are being said about it. i had a little voice in the back of my head telling me i should know this and mango even keel won't be good, but because of regular and grapefruit sculpin i had to try them. if you have that same little voice/gut feeling, listen to it and do not buy these messy, half assed, BMC quality beers.

The labeling would indicate that natural flavoring was used to produce this beer.

    Cheers!

Oddly enough I actually get a really big pineapple flavor from this, though mostly all in the back and aftertaste. Also somewhat oddly I found I got more noticeable pineapple when it was right out of the fridge (I keep my fridge at 40F) vs 10-15 minutes later after it had warmed a little.

Overall I'm in the "I like it and will buy it again" camp I think. I saw a mixed 12 recently that was:

    4x Pineapple Sculpin
    4x Grapefruit Sculpin
    4x Original Sculpin

Didn't notice the price, but as long as it isn't fucking $40 or some nonsense I'll probably pick one up this summer.

We've run beers through fresh cut watermelon several times and they always end up having that Jolly Rancher smell and flavor. It's pretty uncanny, actually. I highly doubt Alesmith used any sort of fake flavoring- they probably just used too much watermelon.

I really enjoyed the aroma, it had lots of pineapple and citrusy notes. But I really did not enjoy this beer overall. I love regular sculpin, the grapefruit was pretty good but this one is a miss for me.

have had the Grapefruit, Pineapple, & Habernaro. Though all were good in their own way, I think I still prefer plain old Sculpin. Habernaro was the biggest punch in the mouth. Got pretty good fruit aroma and flavors from the other two.

I liked this a lot better than grapefruit, flavoring was nice and subtle but perfectly present.

Not impressed at all. Regular Sculpin so much better than the variants.

Trust me, it was fake... it smelled like watermelon and I was expecting a wonderful flavor. It had zero watermelon flavor, just this weird bitter, chemical flavor. It was the first bad beer I've had from AleSmith, and everyone I was with thought it tasted terrible. I was honestly surprised, AleSmith puts out really good stuff.

Specs online now has it in their database, it shows a handful of stores to call. Normally once it shows up in the online app it is available within a few weeks. TABC shows it was approved back on Jan 20th for bottle, can and 2 different size kegs

Talked to my beer guy at a local Specs yesterday. Says it is coming but that Andrews still does not have it in stock. Total said something similar last week. Amazing that it was in Austin two weeks ago.

I agree. I also got little pineapple except for in the nose. I was expecting it to burst out like the habanero version. Not a bad beer, but not what I was expecting at all.

Tried this. Nasty. Up front the pineapple takes away from the great sculpin flavors, and it's just a blunted mishmash, and the aftertaste is that of overly sweet candy. Like I had too many Jolly Ranchers.

Coming from someone who loves Grapefruit Sculpin.

My wife ordered a draft pint of Pineapple Sculpin earlier this evening. I had a few sips. She and I agreed it was a good beer. I am not going out to buy a 6-pack of this beer but....

I really like Grapefruit Sculpin and regular Sculpin.

    Cheers!
