That's a really cheap price when you break it down.

Keg prices are literally 40 dollars more than the average IPA. Yeah it's overpriced.

Also, it's really not a good beer anymore. Last one I had from a bottle had a distinctly chemical aftertaste.

You can't quote Costco prices as an example of good pricing. If Costco charges 44.99 for it they literally probably paid $46 for it. Costco takes a loss on beer because they make it back in spades with chicken and toilet paper.

By the case most BP is $40. Sculpin, calm and VAS are $50. Case price pretty good.

    Enjoy

I don't think it's legal to sell alcohol for less than cost

It's $14-$16 a six pack here in California, depending where you go.

$15-$16 for a 6er of an IPA (albeit good) is steep when there are 12-packs of Hop Hunter, Celebration, Smuttynose Finest Kind, the various Lagunitas IPAs, etc for $14 or less.... Sure, give me the "you can't compare 6pack to 12 pack price", but when I have equally good options on the shelf.... why would I ever pay the same for half as much product? Sculpin isn't a giant DIPA (There is no way Grapefruit sculpin costs that much more to make over any other IPA or as much as say Enjoy By or Victory at Sea, both of which are similar price-point).

The bar-strategy actually does make sense. There's many reasons why you might be in a bar rather than drinking at home. I like going to bars and I realize that it is generally more expensive than buying from a store and consuming elsewhere. Of course there are exceptions, like being able to get Lost Abbey beer on tap for less $ per ounce than a bottle from a store (still don't get that) or happy hour prices that make it an inexpensive meal with tap prices on-par (or cheaper) than the price at a store. But beyond that, I'm going to get a beer. If a beer like Sculpin is on tap for roughly the same price, then it makes more sense to buy it on draft and not in a can. If you are limited to one beer, it would be sill to say order a Torpedo for roughly the same price, but then buy sculpin from a store at a much higher cost than the Torpedo. I see Smuttynose Big A Ipa for $5.50 on draft compared to $7+ for other DIPAs, I'll drink the Big A and then skip it when I go to the store and instead buy stuff I might have skipped while at the bar.

That said, I still don't buy Sculpin on draft because it is usually $7 or more for a pour. I'll go with a $6 Double Jack (4oz less pour, but still a better deal) every time.

I've been spoiled here in Michigan, Sculpin and it's variants at Meijer have been typically under $13/6pk, with them at $12/6pk on sale a couple weeks back.

Same price here in PA which is why I stopped buying Ballast Point IPA's (never fresh), regional and local brewers with fresher IPA's are killing it for alot less money.

I dont buy sculpin either due to bottles and cans not having that great tap taste. A case is $50 so $12.50 a sixer.

Why no Jai Alai? I stopped because can to can from the same case and even six pack was to drastic of a taste difference.

Been enjoying my $26 case of Yuengling IPL. I hope its available this summer. I could rotate that with Slowride all summer.

    Enjoy

The last case of Jai Alai i bought in September tasted 'off'. That case was extremely fresh (less than 2 weeks from canning date). I ended drain pouring most of that case.

I will no longer purchase that beer.

    Cheers!

If its too expensive for you, why even open up the thread to complain about it? You must know the pricing is not within your budget or you don't see the value in it. Which is fine. But to then waste your time (and ours) to express your dissatisfaction on a product that you have no intention on even giving a chance? Keep it moving!

Get engaged in a convo on a thread on something that actually interests you. Ask questions. Learn something. Instead of unfounded hate and complaining about a product that you havent even tried, making comments like "This sounds awful" or "i'm not buying this because it is 50% more expensive and not 50% better"......keep it moving!
