Undoubtedly the area is probably lacking overall but myself and 8 other guys are heading to Pinehurst/Southern Pines for a golf trip Aug 8-12...any establishments or stores in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area that carry beers that need to be picked up or consumed? We're planning on hitting up triangle wine company for potential hauls.

If you know of specific local brews that TWC or other area stores may carry that are worth picking up that we can't get in Florida or Eastern VA, that advice would be awesome too.

You'll have to drop by Donald Ross's old place, The Pine Crest Inn (Mr B's Lounge) in Pinehurst. A great bar by any standard, the real deal. The Fresh Market and Harris-Teeter probably have good selections in a resort locale.

Are you all driving in? If so from where? The selection here is pretty slim and you may be better off picking up stuff on your way in.

There's one brewery nearby, at least - Railhouse. Not a lot of experience with them, but I had their IPA the other day and found it enjoyable. They just started bottling, as well.

I stopped by Triangle Wine Company on my way through Aberdeen to visit my folks last weekend and they actually have a pretty impressive selection. They have a decent sized cooler of cold craft beers and growlers and several shelving units of craft. I'd say they had a pretty good representation of what's distributed to NC. They also have a small bar with a number of taps, I didn't count but I'd say around a dozen. They carry a number of local breweries. I know VA gets Foothills and Duck Rabbit. Anything from Olde Hickory is good. Mother Earth Endless River Kolsch is nice for summer, and if they have their Windowpane Blackberry it's worth a try. I'm a big fan of LoneRider. They don't get a lot of attention, but the PeaceMaker Pale and Sweet Josie Brown are very, very good even though they aren't the most popular styles. Enjoyed their recent Cowboy in Black as well. I did pick up a bottle of Railhouse's Mastiff Oatmeal stout and enjoyed it.

I think that would probably be my one stop shop; next time I go through I hope to have time to stop for a pint.

I haven't had a chance to try it, but I've heard Sly Fox has a decent selection of taps and good food.

Now that I think of it, I should probably copy and paste this as a place review

There is a Mellow Mushroom in Southern Pines across from Lowe's Home Improvement. They tend to have a decent beer selection and always have good pizza.

If driving from Virginia, then you're coming down through Raleigh via us 1. Hit up bottle revolution and/or ridgewood for some bottles. If coming up from Florida, ask a gamecock. :grinning:

Triangle Wine Company has opened in Aberdeen (as mentioned above). Huge selection of wine and beer. Only bottle shop in the area.

yea, triangle wine is really the best bet as I found out from our trip. They have about 12-15 taps in the back so you can have a good beer and shop, which is awesome. Always alot of good beers, check their tap list on the website before you go to get an idea

If youre over in Fayetteville (seems dead I know, but if you know what youre doing you can find some stuff), Ive learned this from my not-so-joyous memories. Bob and Sherrie's on Raeford has a decent selection of beer and glassware but the shit is cramped. I had to have hands in pockets in there. I love Mash House, they know what theyre doing. stop in for a pint of whatever the fruit treated keg is.

Word of warning. I used to frequent Huske Hardware downtown. Batch variance is insane, but, when they hit, its wow. Sour Patch, JD BA Honey Blonde, and Watermelon Wheat are amazing. Everything else is so hit or miss that I pass on it unless Im there.

Other than that, just make the trip to either Charlotte or Raleigh. Its worth it. I live in Chapel Hill, and used to visit an ex that I hate in Fayetteville. Its better up here.

They actually took out one of their wine aisles and replaced it with beer. So their selection has grown a bit however, it is still a bit cramped. And their prices are a bit up there.

Mash house is good. I was there a few weeks ago and had their stout aged in jack Daniels barrels. Good stuff.

Just go to Saxapahaw and cleanse all of that! Honestly, you can travel anywhere across the Piedmont- not even to mention Asheville- and have beautiful beer episodes. These are good Carolina beer days and our poster still needs to check out The Pinecrest Inn, golfer, historian, or not, just for the experience. Cheers.

I actually live in Chapel Hill, but used to spend one weekend a month in Fayetteville in an ill-fated relationship. I still ask for growlers from Mash House if anyone is coming up from that way, also the beer at Huske can be great. I think both of those breweries get overlooked being in the town that theyre in.

Didnt get there but we went to the resort lounge last year to watch the final round of the PGA Championship. Sweet ass growlers and actually had a growler of the Ka-Bar Brown. Good beer
