I had this beer the other day and I loved
it. Is this a year around beer or is it seasonal. The reason I ask is a friend will be down to Chicago in a few weeks and I want more.

There's no such thing as a seasonal or year-round Pipeworks beer. To me, they appear to just brew stuff whenever they want.

I'd check beer menu to see if any place has a bottle or 2 left. Pipeworks rotates so there's always something new coming out, but it's possible to find a store that has older bottles still on the shelf. I scored an older batch # of the regular Abduction last week by getting lucky.

Personally, Id suggest following the main PW thread to stay updated on all the info.

I dont think theres any new batches of reg coffee break scheduled to come out in the next couple weeks, so your pal might have to do some searching. I picked up 3 of um from binnys in bolingbrook (suburb) last week. However, Id recommend looking non-binnys, because Im assuming most PW got pretty cleared out this past wkend due to an infamous $2 off coupon thats been floating around.

how was that drinking? I always say i'm going to cellar an abduction bottle and then always end up drinking it the next day...

I'm cellaring mine for a bit more. I figure that half the work is already done for me, why not let it sit for a bit more? Luckily there's always other beer to open in the meantime.

I had a Batch 60 which is about 9 months old. Had a lot of carbonation left and really tasty I took notes but they are at home. I was going to wait to write a review untill I tried the next version to compare.

My wife was in Chicago several weeks back and I had her pick up 4. I gave 3 away to my friends and then drank mine. I wish I would have gotten 2 more.

When I was down in Chicago about two weeks ago the Binny's behind Goose Island had a couple of cases of Coffee and Paradisiac, RTA should be easy-ish to find right now as well.

not sure why anyone would want to age a coffee beer... unless maybe you don't like the coffee flavor... in which case just buy regular Abduction.... ?

Age is relative. I love BCBCS after about 8 months.

BCBCS is a totally different animal IMO, but even with that said, I still prefer to drink it as fresh as possible... but then again I absolutely loooove coffee/coffee beers... I'm not saying the beers will be ruined by aging them a bit, I just don't see much point to it in the case of a coffee beer that also has a non-coffee equivalent... anyhow to each their own...

    cheers

Agreed thetomG. I just recently tried 2011 BCBCS for the first time. I will definitely be drinking my last 2-2012 coffees sooner rather than latter.

It was good but I haven' t had a non aged one. So I can't really tell you much other then you could not taste the alcohol one bit compared to OTA. I have a BA smoked porter batch #5 I'm gonna drink soon, its over a year and only 7 %. That will be the really test to date on how pipework's stuff ages I guess.

Is there a hierarchy of distribution for Pipeworks releases? I ask because some places I've inquired have given me the "huh what?" deer-in-headlights response to questions about virtually any Pipeworks beers that aren't already on their shelves (Smoked Porter, Close Encounter, Foolish Wit, End of Days). Then I see people managing to buy them by the case - clearly the places I've looked are not getting cases (plural) of Coffee Abduction or else someone would have heard they existed.

All of that said, any hints on which places tend to be high-volume Pipeworks accounts? If I'm going on a hunting trip, I'd like to avoid seeing ONLY the same 4-6 non-rare options I can get anywhere.

West Lake View(order online for in store pick up) , Beer Temple( Beer temple gets pipeworks super fast, got Chai Dog on the 15th which was bottled on the 14th, they also don't save beers for people, which is a good thing), Binnys.....up to a few days ago:flushed: , but they will restock, Fischman's (Fischman's updates their beer menu regularly). Those in my option are the best places to get Pipeworks.
