    Hi Everyone,

I posted a thread of ISO: KBS, BBPt5 etc. FT: Box of Pipeworks Beers. I haven't heard anything during the past week or so the thread has been up and wanted to get opinions on if I was way off.

FYI: I offered 1x Barrel Aged Smoke Porter, 1x Hyper Dog, 1x Blood of Unicorn, and 1x Ninja v. Unicorn.

Any advice...or criticism would be greatly appreciated. I try to monitor the trade threads a lot before offering up a trade but lately I haven't heard on quite a few threads.

I don't want to get a bad reputation or anything by posting too many ISO:FT threads, I just got hooked being able to trade for stuff i haven't had.

    Thanks Everyone,
    Dan

I'm know that it only gets distributed in Chicago. I also heard that they don't even use a distributor yet, they deliver it themselves, but then again that is just what I 'heard'.

As of right now most people just don't know about Pipeworks. They make great beers, but the beers you're looking for are trading for similar things (I've traded some Bourbon County and Cantillon for the beers you're ISO). You might find a generous soul eventually who would make those trades, but probably not at the moment.

    That's correct.

They'll get there. Just a matter of time.

It is a bit of a catch-22... you have to send Pipeworks beers $4$ or as extras to get more folks from outside Chicago talking about them. Once people are talking about them, you may be able to find someone curious enough to send a KBS your way.

I traded a bunch $4$ and threw some in BIF boxes. They're really good and they deserve attention, but they aren't going to pull limited stuff until they are limited. Right now they are pretty easy to find, especially if you are in FwB (which by my estimate, 92% of Chicago is).

I'm headed to Chicago next month for a wedding, so time will be too short to cruise around hunting beer. Wedding is at the Drake and I'm staying at the Hyatt...should Pipeworks bottles be fairly easy to find?

Edit: re-read Agold's post, but I'm unsure of what FwB means. First time going to Chicago.

Most Binny's have Pipeworks now, I know that Lincoln Park Binny's does.

I would try the Binny's on Grand Ave, as it is closest to your hotel, but if you have a car, the South Loop Binny's usually has a ton of Pipeworks and is reasonably close.

FwB = Friends with Benefits. Anyone who donated $100 to their Kickstarter has each release held at the Lincoln Park Binny's for a week so they can buy Pipeworks beers without running around town.

FwB means friends with benefits. Pipeworks did a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds and those who donated a certain amount or above are "friends with benefits". This basically means they have a bottle of each new release reserved in their name to purchase. This eliminates the need to scramble to find a new Pipeworks beer when it comes out.

    EDIT: Beat me to it!

I've enjoyed all of the Pipeworks beers I've tried. Give them time!

I thought both the Jones Dog & Hyper Dog were both solid, tasty beers.

Trading for regional off the shelf beers of equal value should not be a problem. Limited release beers will be tough until Pipeworks creates some kind of buzz or does a spectacular hyped release.

Cool, thanks for the info. FwB is a pretty sweet idea...

I'll trade you some west coast off the shelfs for glaucus, ninjas vs, and blood.

You now have me going and adding Pipeworks beers to my wants list! If I didn't have a couple trades going now, I'd BM you to work something out. Ninja v. Unicorn is a want for the bottle art alone!

NvU is better than about 99% of the IPA's here in San Diego. No joke.

    3 options:

    1) wait for brewery to get famous. hoard beer. be a beer speculator ._. i don't really advise this, but it doesn't have to be spun in the evil way i put it.

    2) respond to FTs of beer you want with offers of this beer. explain how good you think it is, make clear you're not trying to rip people off with unknown beer or whatever people in the current age of "beer as commodity" might think you're trying to do.

    3) actively hype the brewery on here... this is not something i'd advise. i guess you could do it subtly, but chances are people will see what you're doing and get grossed out by it.

obviously, i'm sort of suggesting (2).

You asking for top 100 beers of fame for a relatively "untested" brewery, as the shortsighted perjorative goes. I have gotten End of Days as an extra in boxes twice, it is pretty good but nothing I would give up BBpt5 to obtain. Most of their offerings hover right around the 4.0 mark, which is about as telling as the next episode of Pretty Little Liars, but it might be a waypoint for some considering the trade.

It could be of interest for tickers or someone seeking variety, but they have yet to set the world on fire.

Some breweries just want to watch it all burn.

I think i'm going to stay away from both 1 and 3 for now. I enjoy their beers and hopefully the word will spread swiftly, if i run into anyone wanting something that i truly can say Pipeworks does well (NvU is a great IPA) then i will speak up. Thanks again for the replies.
