Pipeworks Releases and Updates (2019)

Cracked my BA apple brandy Jones Dog this week and it was awesome. Luckily I haven’t had any issues with the bottles I bought from them.

 

Safe to say Coconut is drinking fantastically. A touch hot imo (I’m sensitive to Heaven Hill for some reason), but that’s the only thing preventing it from being top notch. Outstanding aside from that.

 

Having a 2016 BA Hyper Dog and it is excellent. The finish has developed a slight tartness now that it's at the 3-hour mark of being open, but it's so smooth even though the aroma is surprising boozy. Really impressed with how well this has held up. Biggest problem is trying to get through the whole bottle. I'm about a pint in and really craving something hoppy at this point.

 

Did anyone give this one a try? I love what I've had from Desthil.

 

I didn't get a chance to make it to the bottle shop last weekend unfortunately.

 

Does anyone know if any store in the city has pineapple guppy yet? Thanks.

 

Should be out there, Pipeworks does a lot of distro on Mondays. Bottles and Cans already got some for sure.

I had to do a little research myself after hearing the rumblings. I had two Coconuts, one in the cellar and one in the fridge. i opened the cellar bottle and it is excellent. It may have changed a bit from fresh, coconut fading just a tad and gotta love those coconut flecks reminiscent of 2013 Prop floating in the glass. The Heaven Hill barrel is right up front and really smooth as it warms.

 

Pineapple Guppy is stellar. Once you pop the can, the fresh pineapple aroma leaps out of the can. It’s like sitting at a table where someone is carving a whole fresh pineapple. The light crushable-ness of the beer combined with the subtle, balanced, natural pineapple is lovely. This better come back multiple times this summer. I anticipate drinking a couple cases at least through August.

 

BUT IS IT HAZY?!? J/K

Finally picked up some Schwarzbier and Pineapple Guppy today. Both are excellent. Expected I’d like the Schwarz, but wasn’t sure about the Guppy since I haven’t cared for the others. I’m pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy it.

 

I decided to open a BA Jones Dog to add further commentary that there are no problems at all. But, there was definitely a problem. BA Jones Dog is one of my favorite BA beers for the combo of the milk stout and booziness, and this was off. It was sweet from the barrel, but had this sweet/tart green apple type flavor. And the finish was drying instead of that boozy chocolate milk goodness. This is my first bad experience with any of PW BA beers, so i was surprised and bummed. (Yes, I’m sending them a note as well)

I’ve still got one other bottle that I’m going to look at tomorrow and try to give a good talking to so that it shows better. I’ll be cracking my BA Hyper Dog and the other BA beers (Coconut, Sundae & Cognac) in the near future.
