This might be a weird request, but I thought some of you yinzers could help me out a little. I grew up in the south hills and went to Pitt for undergrad. In my senior year at Pitt, I started dabbling in craft beer. I moved to Florida for grad school, and became completely engulfed in it…constant trips to Tampa for CCB (El Catador!), obsessions with my local spots like Funky Buddha Brewery, homebrewing 30+ batches, an untappd account I use way too much, etc. Every time I’ve visited home in the last four years, I’ve tried new spots that my undergraduate brain didn’t know about 4 years ago, or weren’t around back then. Places like HO1KB, church brew works, Bocktown, etc. That being said, I do not have a good grasp on the Pittsburgh beer scene like I do down here in Florida, especially the newer stuff. That’s why, when I decided to move back to PA (Warren, to be exact) and got engaged, I decided I wanted to do a mainly beer-centric bachelor party to orient both myself and all of my out-of-town friends to the Pittsburgh scene. This is where I want your help. I would love some ideas for what to do that day, that night, where to stay for maximum enjoyment, where to eat, ideas for itineraries, beer-centric places that are close to each other to limit driving, ideas for transportation, other manly activities we can partake in so I can show everyone what I already know – that Pittsburgh and it’s craft beer are the shit. I’ll be moving back to PA in June, and the party will be early August. Let me know if you have any questions.
How about arranging your bachelor party to go to the Copper Kettle and you guys can all brew a special wedding beer?
I do kinda like that, but they've all brewed with me before, ill have a bunch of beers on tap at the wedding, and im toying with having a corked/caged bottle as a wedding favor, so I want them to see what Pittsburgh has! Fantastic idea though.
I would also look at PA Brew Tours. That would limit your driving and stop at a number of breweries. I know they have several tours already pre planned, not sure if they would do a custom tour or not?
