I'm not sure how the forums really work, I just reply in them...haha...but I see the other Pittsburgh Breweries discussion is locked. Which stinks but anywho...

This is it for reference. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/pittsburgh-breweries-fall-edition.539856/page-4

I just thought that forum was a really good discussion with lots of info.

I kept meaning to post that I went to Mindful Brewing about a month ago. I really enjoyed the spot and thought they had a really good draft list. Also, the bottle shop is off the charts with selection. However, it is extremely over priced. That was a sticker shock!! Picked up a couple Pizza Boys.

Oh and I forgot to ask has anyone been to Abjuration Brewing? Thinking of checking it out.

Agreed. Never eaten there, but I've not heard good things. Mostly about service, though.

I find their bottle selection to be pretty pedestrian, but it is light years better than when they opened. Good stuff from Steel City never hurts. Their wine selection is of a high quality, fwiw.

Also, 15 in a row? Nice work.

Anybody going to black tie formal at brew gentlemen? I will be there with at least 1 gem of a bottle to share....its usually pretty chill with outside bottles but wondering if the event(unlimited pours) will deter a dope share!

Went there once - wife ordered what was listed as an IPA and it was definitely some type of lager and the bartender had no idea. I had a pizza and the wife had a veggie black bean burger and neither treated our stomachs too well (granted, it's a veggie burger). It was packed and really loud. Not really my scene and haven't sought going back. I will say that was probably 6+ months ago.

That sucks. When I go, which isn't that terribly often, I make sure to order from one of the guys who used to work at Fathead's. He knows his beer.

I’ll be at the formal. I was there last year. FYI, for this event, not a good idea to bring outside bottles. Space and layout is not going to be set up the same as normal nights plus there is a lot more event management than normal taproom management in this circumstance. Admission to the event includes unlimited pours of everything on tap, so no point in creating an extra concern for the great folks at BG with this event going on. However, shares most any other night seem to work out there!

I was excited when I saw the coolers at Mindful then immediately disappointed when I looked at the prices. I liked their beers though fwiw

As for 2018 news, Insurrection looks like they’ll have a big year. Increased production, canning line, fouders, etc.

Also it seems like every new brewery is trying a NEIPA. Honestly if a new brewery opened and focused on lagers I’d be more excited at this point. There’s enough high quality NEIPAs around these days.

Good for Brad and those guys. Great people and excellent beer.

Indeed. Some diversity would be a nice change of pace.

I enjoy Insurrection's beers a ton, but their food is killer. I have tried multiple items on the menu and they have all been outstanding. My wife and I usually get the personalized charcuterie board.

I love Insurrection. For me, it's them and Hitchhiker. I'm not on the Dancing Gnome train. Lol

Seems like there has been some expanding (BG into lagers, DG / GH / HH into sours), but it's been slow. IPA's and NEIPA's are paying the bills right now...

I really need to start going to Insurrection more (for the beer and the food). I agree that its primed to be the next big thing, given their production expansion and where their beers are at right now, quality wise.

On another note, has anyone had this year's Hopslam yet? It was a lot thinner than I remembered and disappointing overall IMO. Loved last year's so I'm not sure if its this year's batch or if its me.

Right on. Nice to see more sour beer around, though.

It'll be great to see their stuff around town with the increased production volume.

For those who haven’t checked out Fury yet, please try the Flying Pieces (NE IPA) and also try the Vienna’s Wrath (Vienna lager). Fury has a decent range of styles on tap, but I point to those two in particular as standouts. If you like a stout with a roasty character, try the Stealth. If you like some holiday spices on the finish of a stout, try the Blind Sabotage.

You're from Fury Brewing recommending Fury Brewing's beers?

    OK.

I wasn't able to make it to the release as I was out of town last weekend however, my friend snagged me a 4 pack and will be trying at some point this weekend. Looking forward to it.

Hope you enjoy! I’m not here to pretend we are Dancing Gnome or Trillium, but I am happy with Flying Pieces as the first can release. It doesn’t have to be the best product out there to be a good product.
