Going to a concert at the Petersen Events Center tomorrow. Is there something "good" in walking distance? The girl I'm going with said she's walked to Stak'd (?) but she couldn't remember the beer selection. I'm thinking Ubering up to Caliente or Industry might be my best bet.
Oh and I'm staying at the William Penn so I guess if there's something with great beer between there and our destination we could stop. I think City Works is close to hotel but I've never been that impressed with it the few times that I have gone.
Normally I would have researched it up all on my own but work and short notice haven't left me much time. Figured I'd ask some fellow beer nerds instead.

Fuel & Fuddle is your best bet. Love the food and they have a pretty solid tap list - not a big one (10-12 beers), but there's always some interesting ones. They have a pretty good bottle list too just in case. It's essentially right behind Stack'd. I think their HH runs 4-6 and I think it's half off all crafts, but I could be wrong there. Here's their current list at least per their website:

Another option may actually be Hemingway's right on 5th. It's a college bar, but solid bar food and they have a pretty decent draft list as well - more of your standard crafts, but you won't find a $2.75 60 minute draft on Thursdays elsewhere...

It’s not diabeetus if that’s what you are getting at lol. It’s got a little malt sweetness at the end as the style would suggest.

On a different note we released another hazy in cans recently (Apocalyptic Pageant). It’s a real melon punch up front.

The Pittsburgh haze game has really been remarkable with many places stepping it up on that style (places like Yellow Bridge and ShuBrew come to mind along with Fury). We are more fortunate than many other cities with what PGH has to offer.

Sorry just saw this! It wasn't bad. Not really my type of music, but I drank a ton of beer beforehand so it made it easier!

I've decided to go to the Saturday/1pm session.
They have an app for Apple User's only. So damn dumb to not have one made for Android also.
Looks like the better stuff is for the Connoisseur's Session. Of course. Gotta get that dolla dolla bills.

Draai Laag just announced a complete overhaul to the brand. Moving forward they will be Strange Roots Experimental Ales. Full announcement in the link below. I for one am excited for the upcoming changes.

Makes sense for them to rebrand. For a bunch of different reasons.

Just read that. I was never a fan of what they make, but that's just because I'm not really a fan of sours. I guess they are going to make "beer" now? I think it's a risky move to take that name recognition you have built up over the years and start over. I wonder why they can't keep the name? Someone else owns it possibly? I really don't know about the behind the scenes stuff.

    I think this is multi-factorial.

#1: (and probably most importantly) People are averse to buying things that they can't pronounce. The brewery name and a lot of their beers fall into that category.

#2: They have a checkered reputation with both consumers and beer sellers. The consumers because of inconsistent products. The beer sellers because of high prices and inconsistent sales.

#3: They realize that they could make SO much more money by making other beers. The Draai Laag mantra has often been "Weird beers that are higher in alcohol". I mean, they even started out professing that they would never make a beer below 8%. That's odd and I think that they want to distance themselves from that thought process.

Draai Laag, Strange Roots...doesn't matter what the name is...the beer will continue to be inferior to other breweries in Pittsburgh. Thank god others came along. Was tough there for a while hoping DL could figure shit out. Now I could care less.

that institution is questionably managed with questionable brewing.

Hey guys. My wife and I recently just dropped back into the beer scene after a couple of years off. Things got out of hand. They're out of hand again, but we're having fun together with it at least.

What places in Pittsburgh do we need to check out? The last few Saturdays we spent brewery hopping. I'm your typical IPA guy, like some sours and an occasional stout. Wife loves sours, especially Flanders Reds and cider.

We've gone to Hitchhiker (<3), Roundabout, Helltown, Draai Laag (wife is devastated about the change), East End (I'm sad to see Handshake go away). Wife basically lives at the Finleyville Arsenal room. We've hit up some of the bars like Industry, Blue Dust, Fatheads and the like.

We have plans to visit other places. Some of them I had beer from in the past, but I think my supplier had old ass bottles, so I didn't give them a fair shake. We're looking at Voodoo, 11th Hour, Grist House, Insurrection, Cobblehaus, Mindful, Bloom Brew (very close to my house!) and maybe some others that are a bit further out, if we get the chance.

We're in the in the Mon Valley, so some of the breweries that come up in a list of Pittsburgh brewers are bit of a drive (ShuBrew, for example).

Am I missing any smaller gems? The list on Discover The Burgh seems to be a great starting point.

    Thanks guys!

Did anyone go to the Juicy Brews fest at DG last year? Saw they’re doing it again at Ace Hotel and wondering if it’s worth it.

Which location? There are four. The Homestead location is pretty cool.

Neat place, great people, and very good beers.

Probably my favorite brewery in Pittsburgh.

Never eaten there, but their beers are very solid. Doesn't hurt that they have a big guest tap list and a big bottled beer and wine selection either.

Couple more that I'd check out are Helicon in Oakdale and I'm always a sucker for the Hofbrauhaus in Southside Works. Beer bars? Are there any ones other than Piper's?
