If I remember right, the article said that yogurt imparts a pretty clean lactic character, & is cheaper than using a commercial strain.

 

^This. Sorry for the belated follow-up; my wife has committed me to a number of consecutive yard projects (tasks made only slightly easier by consuming a bunch of MOMO) and I was too tired to type yesterday evening.

 

Just a better chance to lower the ph faster before any off flavors and some complexity. Also much cheaper to buy a tub of organic yogurt from whole foods with a bunch of strains of lacto than buying a pitch of some from a yeast lab big enough for 10+ barrel systems.

I was in the area yesterday so I called to see if they had any before stopping by. According to the girl I spoke to on the phone, they had a case of Oro Negro on Tuesday last week and it was gone that day, and they don't think they are going to get any soon.

 

What's up guys, question I was hoping someone could help me with. I'm looking to do a bottle share in the south hills area but wasn't sure if there are any good BYOB locations to do it at. I was hoping to grab some food and open a few beers. Any ideas?

@jagoffyinzer may be open to that at Hitchhiker although its obviously not BYOB. Other than that, @barflybastard's house.

 

I don't have any suggestions for a spot, but I am in the south hills and would be interested in this.

 

I'm drawing a blank on BYOB places in the South Hills. There aren't too many non-chain eateries in this area.

 

The Berliner at Hitchhiker today was outrageous. Definitely the cleanest flavored one I've ever had and infinitely drinkable. Its not only the best beer they have made but one of the better ones I've had in this city. Although I'm sure someone will come on here and say it tasted like shoe polish and wet farts.

 

I may also be interested depending on day/time.

 

Didn't I see a picture on Instagram of @jagoffyinzer and @Evahflow mashing in together? The plot thickens.

 

Also, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that Beto's Pizza place on Banksville hosting bottle shares in the past.

 

I'd be open to entertaining a gathering. Most challenging part of it would be setting up an agreeable time. We are part way through some modest renovation, and the downstairs, which will someday sport a rehabbed bar, is currently the scene of a massive gang fight between two rival factions of stuffed animals. Can't imagine this will right itself soon, so be prepared and bring a toy gun. Probably have to be a weekend; the first two of September I'm out of town.
