Not sure how many of you follow Andy Crouch on social media, but he was soliciting food/beer/drinks suggestions on Twitter for a short trip to Pittsburgh, which he starts tomorrow. Really hope his visit doesn't fuel another story that centers around Primantis. Realize they have a following and the novelty it poses to tourists, but it's like hearing sports commenters excitedly mentioning how the city is transforming itself from a steel town repeatedly during broadcasts, like it's 1990.

Hart from Pipers (whose food/drink opinion I respect) chimed in to thankfully suggest a number of newer options, which would show readers of any potential article that the city continues to develop with regard to food/drink, in addition to coleslaw on sandwiches.

I don't know who Andy Crouch is. But yeah, it's funny how outsiders still perceive Pittsburgh as this cloudy steel town, especially during prime time Steelers games. I haven't been to Primanti's in years, and honestly haven't even given the place a thought in a long long time until your post barflybastard.

On a different note, who's going to Roundabout this weekend?

I'll be there. Look for the guy in the "Steve's Baby Mama" t-shirt.

I'll keep an eye peeled. Not sure which day, if any, I'm going to be there, but that's a shirt that I can't miss.

Anyone have good or bad experiences at Route 19 Beer & Cigar down in Peters? Moved into my house last week (was staying in an apartment in Mt. Lebanon prior), and the Giant Eagle down there doesn't get much fresh product.

As a lifetime Pittsburgh resident, Primanti's is the top spot on my list of "places visitors are told they need to go, but in reality, its a waste of time and money." Also on the list are the inclines and Kennywood.

They have good staff. Didn't you used to work there, @london1o1? And Mike before you?

I pass this place everyday on my way to work out at Southpointe, but I've never been inside.

Not much down this way for beer unfortunately.

Especially now. Listening to the news, they make it sound like Kennywood is as dangerous as 70's Beirut.

Primanti's for sure is a "skip" but I feel that the Inclines are a great way to get some history and also a sweet view of the city. Brings things into perspective for visitors.

I had friends in town over the 4th that hadn't been to the city (and are craft beer lovers) and after they left I was asked by my girlfriends parents "where did you take your friends". One of my first answers was GE Shadyside. They got a kick out of the fact that a highlight of their trip was visiting a grocery store (2 times in fact)

I've only been here for about ten years, but I don't see the appeal with any of those things either. The incline is kinda cool to do once, I guess. I hate Kennywood and Primanti's is terrible IMO.

I'm in USC (work in Bethel) and this area is bereft of solid options. Unless work takes you to Shadyside or New Ken, your best option is to turn onto 79 and drive north to Vintage Estates.

Thanks guys. Really enjoy being close to work at Southpointe but the beer options are less than spectacular down here for weekday drinking. I have no problem driving around the city for beer during the weekend.

The South Hills Market District isn't too far away though, so you always have that.

Bar wise though, there isn't much around that I know of. Although there was a little dive bar 15 minutes out that got a freaking keg of Vanilla Rye last year. It was both interesting and hilarious talking to the 50 year old female bartender who had to work during this and had no idea what Vanilla Rye was or how fast word spreads on social media.
