I agree with this, Nate. The Portlandians have every right to think that fat heads should cater to the super hip Portland crew. However, the pretentious douchebaggery in that thread is a touch unbecoming.

I'm a huge fan of Tired Hands to put it lightly but not into the beers at the fermentaria as much as what is usually on at the brew café, also enjoy the vibe of the brew café a lot more. I love Forest and Main and don't get there nearly enough. I'm not sure there is a more underrated brewery in the world than them. Food wise there is much better in the area. The pro move is to grab a growler at Tired Hands and go to Barbacoa around the corner, it is a BBQ place with insane Peruvian chicken/bbq'ed meats. Or skip going to the Ferm and get a Panini at the brew café and a plate of pickles.

Just don't share the pic; got a warning myself today for posting the beard warmer. Which seemed weird, after all the off topic stuff as of late. Not Portland weird. Just weird.

And neither of them is even in Portland. Boneyard is nearly 200 miles away and Barley Brown 350. What's another 2100 miles? Practically their backyard.

I got in trouble for posting a pic of a hipster once I am not sure how I have not been banned yet

It must be a hipster hypersensitivity then; that's the common denominator. Who watchers the watchers?

Edit: Had both a JuJu and a Head Hunter tonight, and they were both delicious. Even with the kiddos being big buttholes and everything at Fat Heads. Also had a homebrew from a friend up near Ross Township, a grapefruit Sculpin, well not clone, but inspired by, with more zest. Pret-ty good as well.

I think PNW IPAs are top notch stuff. Balebreaker, Boneyard, Oakshire Watershed, and Fremont's wet are all stupendous. FWIW just about the only thing I like about fat heads is the grateful dead references and the beer. Really fuckin good beer. which prettymuch outweighs the other shittyness, by a lot.

it was a bold move for fathead's to pick portland of all places to open their next location. i'm not surprised in the least that sophisticated beer drinkers with a plethora of world-class, local brewery options AND go-to distro options from WA and CA would not be interested, regardless of how good FH's beer is. it would be a challenging task for ANY brewery to enter that market, especially one from OH. i recommend moving on from your states of denial.

Simply put, there is only so much you can do with an IPA or IIPA. It's not a style that has an insane depth of flavor or overly complex flavor profile. Compared to other big styles, they are fairly simplistic. I can't imagine they are doing something there that is so revolutionary or groundbreaking that they are on a different level than so many other great breweries like those crunchy fucks lead you to believe. So when they collectively turn their pretentious noses up at an outsider brewery, who by all accounts and every definition of the phrase has proven time and time again to be world class with a specialization in hoppy beers, I struggle to believe any word out of their douchey mouths regardless of how good Barley Browns and Boneyard may be.

And on that note, I think I am done talking about this.

if fat head's opened a location in vermont, what would you expect the locals' reaction to be?

Same as Portland for no other reason than there are pretentious D-bags everywhere and seems to have the loudest voices but are still the minority. Bottom line is they make great beers in a lot of different styles so they would do just fine there without the 5% of the population who wont drink the beer because the branding isn't their style or the lack of scarf hangers at each table.

Denial of what? By all accounts, it appears that Fat Head's is doing well in Portland, right?

I agree that we should move on (and I'm going to after this post, I swear), but it's worth noting that most there have admitted that the beer is good...the headbrewer was named Oregon Brewer of the Year by New School Beer, they won a Gold medal at GABF. Point being, for me at least, that sure it's challenging to enter a market like that, but we tried telling those brick-headed goofballs that the beer is good and that they would do well there....and in the end...we were right dammit. :grinning:

Hell ya, you had me at pro move. For real though i'll check that Peruvian place out. I'm thinking Forest for brunch, Tired Hands Cafe (yall have talked me into it) for pickles, Barbacoa for dinner, find a bed. Just googled Barbacoa and i'm sweating over the "Mom's Night Off Combos". Holy shit. Thanks for the info!

I drank a couple pints of Roundabout Shared Constellation last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think i said JUICY and BRIGHT about 100 times before my buddy told me to shut the fuck up. Chased it with a Fresh Squeezed and realized how lucky i am to have all these delicious pales and india pales at my fingertips.

I'm kinda sorta kicking around the idea of doing a cannonball run out to Jackie Os maybe on Sunday for the BA Vanilla and Coffee Dark App release. Anyone else interested?
