Do you blame them? Why would they put on those beers for happy hour?

Cause my LBS did when they had CBS. and KBS. So did Harris Grill.

That being said, I might have to go anyways since it might be my last time to use my CBS snifter in the foreseeable future

It's definitely one of the nicest looking snifters out there. You should BYOG to Mad Max and tell them to fill it to the brim.

Man oh man, the Pittsburgh craft beer market confuses me again.

That seems like a terrible business decision as they are just leaving quick/guaranteed money on the table. How the heck would they benefit from putting those beers on for happy hour when they could sell out of them the same night regardless. Wow this market can be confusing.

Because its a gift to your customers. Maintaining loyal customers is much more profitable in the long run than bilking them out of an extra $5 for a night.

And if you don't think Mad Mex and Harris price their beers specifically for Happy Hour prices, you probably haven't been to either of those place.

and @jeevo I'd probably have to pick up an extra shift to cover the price of 22oz of CBS haha

You know you can put other beer in that glass right? The glass doesn't reject non-CBS liquid or anything. As far as I'm aware, anyway... :stuck_out_tongue:

We have discussed this problem in the past, with these bars specifically setting their prices for happy hour (in the last nuked thread). I haven't seen it any other city so it really baffles me.

Wow I am definitely going for some CBS. A nice 3 minute drive right down Highland for me. Had a hankering for some Cilantro Lime wings anyway..

I must have missed that. I think if you start really digging into the ideosyncrasies of the Pittsburgh/Pennsylvania market, you might go blind. Having lived and worked in the business in a few states, I can tell you it all comes from the crazy commonwealth laws.

Astounding. I was imagining that it would just not allow it to enter the top of the glass and would instead just pour down the sides...

The reason I have such an issue with this whole thing is that a lot of the businesses have beer prices that are built around Happy Hour pricing. Happy Hour in theory, is a way to incentivize customers to come to a business during "non-peak" hours, aka between lunch and dinner. But the bars around here jack up their regular prices so that they can offer "half off" during happy hour.

I see two problems with this. First, it should show you how much their margins are if they can still offer the beer half off and make a profit. Secondly, there are so many other hours of the day in which they are open. Have they just conceded to not sell as much beer during those hours, just so they can make less profit during happy hour?

I don't go to places like the Library and Mad Mex for beer because the prices are a little silly and I know that a lot of people on BA feel the same way. So how about all the lost business? They could be creating loyal customers with more reasonable draft prices and instead doing a $1-$2 draft price structure for happy hour. Win-Win.

At least if this happened you can quickly lick the sides of the glass.
