Yeah, that usually happens when I try to put a Stout in a Weizen glass.

Do they not sell enough during regular hours? I imagine if the price point wasn't working they would lower it, but if they sell enough at that cost, then why change it?

That is a valid point, but my greater goal in all of it is trying to discuss some things that would make the Pittsburgh Craft Beer scene a better one. It doesn't take more than 5 min of scrolling to see how much "out of towners" complain about the prices when they come here and there seems to be a general consensus that the Pittsburgh Craft Beer scene is massively price inflated.

I don't know what their beer sales are. But to my observations, some of the beers that hit the market sit around on tap because they are massively inflated. Maybe they want rarer beers to sit on draft for a long time...This I don't know, but it seems counter intuitive to me.

Anyone know how big the bar area is at shadyside mad mex? Just trying to gauge the level of cluster F thursday will be. I will be there no matter what though, cbs is one of the best beers ive had.

Bar area wise it's the biggest Mad Mex in the city. The bar itself is huge, as it's a large island with three sides to it. There are tables and booths surrounding the bar, but there is room to stand in the area between.

Also, I wonder what kind of beers Hough's will have. This will make me sound spoiled, but I've pretty much grown numb to the special offerings that bars here have.

Hahaha this was one of my favorites. He sure "dug deep" for those bottles that all showed up in the market a couple months later.

    Haha, was it crummy?

I have said it a few times before, I really dug the Barrel Event that Hough's had during PCBW. Lots of really cool beers on tap and at affordable sample sized pours. It makes me think that they might have a few decent things this weekend.

I did not attend the event, but as wyckyd sceptre posted above, people said it wasn't that special.

Hough's is a cool place though, and I'm interested in seeing what they have to offer this weekend.

I wasn't there but I heard he just brought the usual shelf shit.

That's kind of what I'm expecting out of Houghs. I love that bar and they get some less common stuff but nothing I would drop everything and run over there for.

Agree that non-happy hour Mad Mex beer pricing is silly, but it's a frequent weekday dinner choice for us, because we can take the kids and eat earlier than the masses, while enjoying good, cheap beer. Often on the weekend we'll pass a Mad Mex in the midst of errands and I'll entertain hitting it up for lunch, before remembering $9 beer.

Wait. I just realized something. That Voodoo ManBearPig picture. Those were probably the barrels that had the BA Maple and the BA Honey in them. I'm smart.

Oh. And that other picture of MagickStick. Wasn't there an old candy called Stick O Honey?

:slight_frown: Damn it. I was thinking of Chick-o-sticks. Which are delicious and would also make a good beer...maybe.
